D1 State Semi-Final Notes: Kimberly and Muskego meet for the state championship

Kimberly will make its seventh appearance in the Division 1 state championship game on Saturday after cruising to a win over FVA foe Appleton East, 55-34, in a state semifinal. 

The Papermakers shot 20-for-39 from the field, 5-for-12 from 3-point land, and 10-for-14 on free throws. Appleton East on the other hand, shot 14-for-35 from the floor, 2-for-13 from three, and 4-for-6 from the charity stripe. 

Kimberly scored 21 points off Appleton East turnovers and held a 16-5 advantage in second chance points. 

Senior Kate McGinnis, a Division I Belmont University recruit, scored a game-high 17 points, shooting 5-for-10 from the floor, 3-for-6 from deep, and 4-for-6 on free throws. Sophomore Ava Von Vonderen (holds D-I offers) added 14 points, eight rebounds, and three assists. 

Two others reached double figures, senior Raegan Krueger, a D-II Minnesota Duluth recruit, and sophomore Haylie Dulas (holds D-I offers), who each chipped in 10 points. 

Appleton East was led in scoring by junior Ella Jazdzewski, who finished with 10 points. 

Kimberly will meet Muskego in the Division 1 state championship game on Saturday at 8:15 p.m. 

 

Muskego will play for the gold ball on Saturday after knocking off Classic Eight foe Arrowhead, last year's D1 state champion, 56-44, in a state semifinal. 

The Warriors led 20-18 at halftime and by as many as 15 late in the game en route to the win and will play in their first state title game in team history. 

Muskego shot 20-for-42 from the floor, 5-for-16 from three, and 11-for-18 from the free throw line. They also outscored Arrowhead 28-16 in the paint, and held a 16-6 advantage in bench points. 

Arrowhead shot 18-for-64 from the field, 6-for-23 on three-pointers, and 2-for-6 from the charity stripe. 

Senior Rachel Agg scored a game-best 17 points for Muskego, shooting 6-for-9 from the field, 2-for-3 from three, and 3-for-3 on free throws. 

Two others reached double figures, sophomore Tatum Meinen and senior Autumn Dibb, a D-II Quincy University recruit, who finished with 12 and 10 points, respectively. Dibb added a team-high six assists. 

Senior Melena Glysch, a D-II Ferris State recruit, tallied eight points, 18 rebounds, two assists, and three steals for the Warriors. 

Arrowhead junior Natalie Kussow, who holds a long list of D-I offers, scored a team-high 16 points, and added six rebounds, three assists, and three steals. 

Muskego will meet Kimberly in the Division 1 state championship game on Saturday at 8:15 p.m. The Warriors are making their first trip to the state championship game in program history.
