Athlete of the Week Nominees: March 10-16

Ady Ketterhagen, Oostburg

Ketterhagen had a great weekend on the court she will be play home games at in college in two years for UW-Green Bay. The junior wing had 13 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals as Oostburg knocked off two-time defending state champion Laconia 66-57 in the semifinals. She struggled from the field, but went 11 of 12 from the charity stripe. Ketterhagen again thrived at the free throw line in the Division 3 State Championship game against Xavier. She was 13 of 14 and finished with 27 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals, and a block in the 49-36 victory, the fourth state title for Oostburg.

Mikaia Litza, Wauwatosa East

Litza was phenomenal as Wauwatosa East took home a state title this past weekend. In a semifinal matchup with West De Pere, the junior Division 1 recruit finished just shy of a triple-double. She tallied 16 points, 9 rebounds, and 9 assists in the 71-58 victory. Edgewood, the Division 3 champion from last year, then awaited Tosa East in the championship game. It took three overtimes to crown a champion, but the Red Raiders came away with a 59-58 win. Litzka carried the torch in the second half and overtime periods. She scored both points in the first overtime period, two of the three points in the second overtime, and five of the seven points in the third overtime. Litzka finished with 32 points, 9 rebounds, 5 steals, 2 assists, and 2 blocks.

Sarah Shaw, Assumption

The Assumption girls basketball team won its fourth state championship this past weekend, and Shaw was a huge reason why. The 5-7 point guard tied a state record in the 61-36 Division 5 semifinal win over Barneveld. Shaw recorded 12 steals, which tied the overall record, regardless of division. She also tallied 18 points, 6 assists, and 5 rebounds. Shaw then had 7 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 steals in Assumption's 34-30 win over Barneveld in the Division 5 state championship game. 

Ava Van Vonderen, Kimberly

Van Vonderen was the catalyst for the Papermakers team that took home gold in Green Bay this past weekend. In the 55-34 semifinal win over FVA foe Appleton East, the 6-1 sophomore scored 14 points and added 8 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 seal, and 1 block. The Papermakers then faced off with Muskego in the Division 1 State Championship. Van Vonderen had a game high 15 points, made three of six from deep, and finished with 9 rebounds, 2 steals, an assist and a steal in the 47-26 victory for the Papermakers, the fifth state title in program history.

Ella Vosberg, Cuba City

Vosberg was instrumental in Cuba City capturing gold on Saturday afternoon in the Resch Center. The senior forward led all scorers with 28 points in a 68-63 victory over The Prairie School in the semifinals. She was 10 of 20 from the floor, 8 of 10 from the free throw line, and had a double-double with 11 rebounds. She then had another double-double in the Cuban's 53-50 win over St. Mary Catholic in the Division 4 State Championship game. Vosberg finished with 14 points and 10 steals as she led Cuba City to a record, eleventh state title.
