Assumption won its fourth WIAA state title in program history, topping Barneveld, 34-30, in the Division 5 state championship game on Saturday at the Resch Center in Green Bay.
The Royals held a 17-16 halftime advantage despite trailing nearly the entire first half.
Assumption pressure in the second half proved to be too much for Barneveld. The Royals recorded nine steals in the second half and outscored Barneveld 13-2 in points off turnovers in the half and 19-4 for the game.
The Royals shot 10-for-42 from the floor, 3-for-18 from three, and made 11-14 from the free throw line. The 11 free throws made were 10 more than Barneveld in the contest.
Junior Jordyn Jaglinski finished with a game-high 13 points for Assumption. The NCAA Division II Augustana University recruit shot 4-for-10 from the floor, 3-for-9 on three-pointers, and 2-for-2 from the charity stripe.
Seniors Sarah Shaw and Addi Vollert each chipped in seven points for the Royals. Shaw added seven rebounds and four steals, and Vollert had two assists and two steals.
Shaw set the Division 5 state tournament record with 16 steals; she set the game record of 12 steals in their state semi-final win over Owen-Withee.
Another key contributor for coach Ryan Klein and the Royals was another senior, Anna Schooley, who tallied five points, 10 rebounds, four assists, and five steals.
The Royals set a Division 5 state tournament record with 46 steals in the two games.
Assumption finished the year with a 29-1 overall record. This is the Royals' second WIAA state title under Coach Klein; they also finished as the D5 state runner-up in 2022.
Barneveld was led by junior Izabel Durst, who finished with 12 points. She shot 5-for-13 from the field and 2-for-7 from 3-point land.
Durst added three rebounds, two assists, and three steals for WBCA Hall of Fame head coach Jim Myers and the Golden Eagles.
Barneveld ends the season 22-8 overall, taking home the program's fourth silver ball. The Golden Eagles have six state titles, all under the leadership of Coach Myers.
This was the fifth meeting between Assumption and Barneveld in a state championship game. The Royals have won three of the five; they split their previous four, consecutive meetings (2013-2016).
