Kimberly claimed its fifth state championship in program history, cruising to a 47-26 win over Muskego in the Division 1 state title game on Saturday evening at the Resch Center in Green Bay.
The Papermakers scored the first five points of the game and led the rest of the way, going on a late 13-1 run to win by 21 points, their biggest lead of the game.
After a slow start for both teams, Kimberly holding a 15-8 lead at halftime, the Papermakers got things rolling in the second half. They built a 13-point lead, 28-15, with 11:14 to play and the closest Muskego would get the rest of the way was nine, 34-25, with 6:12 left before they went on Kimberly went on the big run to end the game.
The Papermakers shot 15-for-43 from the field, 5-for-20 from three, and 12-for-16 on free throws. They also outscored Muskego 20-8 in the paint and held a 15-5 advantage in second-chance points.
Sophomore Ava Van Vonderen, who holds NCAA Division I offers, led Kimberly with 15 points and nine rebounds and added two steals, an assist, and a block.
Two others reached double figures for the Papermakers: sophomore Haylie Dulas, who holds D-I offers, and senior Raegan Krueger, a D-II Minnesota Duluth recruit, who tallied 13 and 10 points, respectively.
Senior Kate McGinnis, a D-I Belmont University recruit, finished with seven points, seven rebounds, and three steals. Another notable contributor was junior Emily Urban, who tallied eight rebounds, two assists, and a steal.
Kimberly finishes the year with a 29-1 record, winning the program's fifth state championship in 12 trips overall.
Muskego went 9-for-37 from the floor, 3-for-19 from three, and 5-for-6 from the charity stripe.
The Warriors were led by seniors Melena Glysch, a D-II Ferris State recruit, and Autumn Dibb, a D-II Quincy University recruit, who each netted seven points.
Muskego ends the year with a 25-5 record, reaching the D1 state championship game in the program's first trip to the state tournament.
