Hartford's Makena Christian has been chosen as the state's top senior wing as part of the WSN Basketball Awards.
Christian led the Orioles to a Division 1 sectional semifinal, finishing the year 23-4 overall after falling to eventual D1 state champion Kimberly 56-55.
Christian averaged 23.2 points, 10.2 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 2.9 steals, and 1.2 blocks per game for coach Vinny Daniels and the Orioles.
Makena shot 50.2 percent from the floor, 80.8 from the free throw line (122-for-151), and 37.8 from behind the arc (74-for-196)
Christian is on a short list of players with career totals of over 2,000 points and 1,000 rebounds.
The University of Minnesota recruit ended her career as a top 10 all-time scorer in girls’ basketball history, netting 2,522 points. She also tallied 1,037 rebounds, 265 assists, 259 steals, 136 blocks, and 292 three-pointers, leading Hartford to an 80-28 record.
Makena earned first-team WBCA all-state as a junior and senior, earning honorable mention all-state as a sophomore. She was also a three-time North Shore Player of the Year.
She led Hartford to a trip to the Division 1 state tournament as a junior, the program's first appearance since 2000.
The finalists for the award were Christian, Lydia Aalsma of Waupun, Addison Baumgart of Kaukauna, Megan Johnson of West Salem, Tierney Madigan of Laconia, Peyton Musial of Notre Dame, and Jenna Welsch of Catholic Memorial.
