Zach Kinziger of De Pere has been selected as the top senior Point Guard as part of the WSN Senior Basketball Awards.
Having led the Redbirds to a sectional final appearance for a fourth straight season, the four-year varsity performer earned the award by being one of the top scoring point guards in the state.
This season, Kinziger averaged 24.4 points per game while shooting 51% from the field and 36% from three. The 6-3 point guard also averaged 4.7 rebounds, 2.7 assists and had a 2:1 assist to turnover ratio while leading De Pere to a 26-2 record and a fourth straight Fox River Classic title. He was named the conference's Player of the Year this season and is a three-time all-conference selection; first team the past two seasons.
During his four years at De Pere, the Mr. Basketball finalist helped lead the Redbirds to a 107-7 overall record and a 70-2 record in conference. The Redbirds played in four sectional final games and had a perfect 30-0 season that ended with a Division 1 State Championship in 2022-23.
For his career Kinziger tallied 1,883 points, 440 rebounds, 303 assists, and 138 steals in 112 games played.
Head coach Brian Winchester of De Pere had this to say bout Zach.
"Zach is a great representative of our school. He is well respected for his character, leadership, and humility. On the court, Zach is a relentless competitor. He has helped our program to over 100 wins, 4 conference titles, and a state championship during his four years as a varsity player. In addition to being 2nd on our schools all time scoring list, he is also 2nd in school history for assists. All great accomplishments while being a great teammate."
Kinziger will suit up for the in-state Wisconsin Badgers next season.
Finalists for the award were Kinziger, David Bolden of Nicolet, Javante Edwards of Carmen Northwest, Elijah Griffin of Westosha Central, and Cooper Jesperson of Eau Claire Memorial.
