Xzavion Mitchell of Oshkosh North has been selected as the top senior Wing as part of the WSN Senior Basketball Awards.

A four-time Fox Valley Association first-team all-conference selection and two-time Player of the Year, Mitchell had one of the more impressive individual playing careers in the state that culminated in a WIAA Division 2 state tournament appearance this season and a 19-10 record.

The Mr. Basketball award winner played on the wing for head coach Brad Weber and the Spartans, but also spent plenty of time at point guard facilitating the offense.

This season Mitchell was the second leading scorer in the state, averaging 34.7 points per game while shooting 56% from the field and 84% from the free throw line. He scored 1,006 total points this season which is the fourth highest single season scoring output in state history. Mitchell also averaged 9.4 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 2.3 steals, and 1.5 blocks per game.

Over the course of his four varsity seasons, Mitchell amassed 2,824 career points. That total is the third highest in state history for a career. He made 628 free throws and tallied 920 rebounds, 319 assists, 199 steals, and 155 blocks in 107 games played.

Head coach Brad Weber said this about his 6-7 senior leader:

"Zay has an elite work ethic. There is no doubt why his game has improved by leaps and bounds each year. He puts in the time and is addicted to the process of being great. He embodies the quote 'big time players make big time plays in big time moments' - he always showed up in our biggest games. Zay is more than just a scorer. He is a top level defender (on the wing and protecting the hoop). He is a complete player (which gets overlooked when you see his scoring stats)"

Mitchell will be headed to Iowa State next season to play for Milwaukee native T.J. Otzelberger.

Finalists for the award were Mitchell, Amari Allen of Ashwaubenon, Drew Daoust of Southern Door, Roman Thompson of Kettle Moraine, and Aaron Womack III of Dominican.

Past winners of the award include Amari McCottry of Saint Thomas More (2024), Marcus Hall of D.C. Everest (2023), Andrew Rohde of Brookfield Central (2022), Cam Palesse of Waukesha West (2021), Johnny Davis of La Crosse Central (2020), Marcus Domask of Waupun (2019), Tyler Herro of Whitnall (2018), Kobe King of La Crosse Central (2017), Sam Hauser of Stevens Point (2016), Henry Ellenson of Rice Lake (2015), Kevon Looney of Milwaukee Hamilton (2014), Nick Fuller of Sun Prairie (2013), and Sam Dekker of Sheboygan Lutheran (2012).
