Team Previews

Colfax is the favorite to capture the Dunn-St.Croix Conference after winning its first-ever conference championship a season ago. The Vikings will have to replace key defensive positions from a year ago and have to rely on some youth to fill those positions. John Dickinsen, who has nine years as Colfax’s leader, mentions that the team will also need to replace a lot of offensive output. Brynn Sikora Jr C will be moving to SS this Year (2024 Dunn-St. Croix Player of the Year. 2x 1st Team-All Conference, 2x WFSCA 1st Team All-District. 2024 WFSCA 2nd Team All-State 40 Hits, 40 RBI, 9 Home Runs, .580 Avg) and Laikyn Beyer Jr P (2024 1st Team All-Conference, 2024 Honorable Mention WFSCA All-District, 20-3, 120 ⅔ IP, 2.44 ERA ) highlight the roster for the Vikings. Colfax traveled to Cocoa Beach, Florida for some spring break games including games with Medford and Milwaukee Reagan and is in the same playoff grouping with Boyceville, McDonell Catholic, and Stratford.

Elk Mound will look to compete with Colfax for the DSC crown in its final season before moving to the Cloverbelt-West next year. The Mounders have a strong upperclassman group compared to years past, says second year head coach Kevin Meyer. “With a lot of returning players, we have a high talent floor. Pitching and defense will be our strengths; more consistent hitting, especially vs top pitchers is our biggest weakness”. Eight seniors will lead the group with the most notable being Hailey Meyer Sr P (2x All Conference Selection, .462 avg, 30 Hits, 10-10 119 IP, 2.53 ERA) and Ellie Schiszik Sr IF/OF (3x first team all conference selection, .352 avg 25 hits). The Mounders will have a competitive non-conference schedule to prepare for the playoffs with matchups with almost all Regional opponents including Somerset, Arcadia, Spooner and last year's Division 4 champion Fall Creek and Division 3 Champion Prescott.

Paige Fenton Sr 2B is another of note for 15th year head coach Jamie Olson. Olson mentioned, “We will be young, but we have some depth at positions so girls are working hard to earn those spots. Very young, yet a determined and hungry team that has set some goals to compete at a high level. We are looking forward to getting some nice weather and playing ball.”

Durand-Arkansaw looks to stay around the middle of the Dunn-St. Croix Conference this season. Fourth-year head coach Wade Henricks says, “Our outfield should be strong, with upperclassmen. They are pretty fast and communicate well. Infield will have many new faces. We have great knowledge of the game, and should be able to step up and do what is required to succeed. Pitching should also be a strength, returning lots of experience with both of our main pitchers from last season. We are not returning much of our offense from last season, losing a lot to graduation. So I anticipate this being a look and see situation. I believe we have many players that will step up in a new bigger role, and will succeed on the offensive end.”
