2024 Season Recap

Belmont (18-5 overall) and Highland (15-6) shared the West Division crown. Potosi/Cassville (11-11), Benton/Shullsburg (8-8) and River Ridge (5-17) rounded out the West. Barneveld (17-5-1) took the East crown followed by Juda/Albany (15-11), Monticello/New Glarus (6-13), Pecatonica (7-14) and Argyle/Blackhawk (7-13). Barneveld and Juda/Albany both advanced to Sectional play with Barneveld falling to eventual D5 Runner up Oakfield.

Team Previews

Barneveld will look to be at the top of the Six Rivers this season. The Golden Eagles return deep pitching in Hannah Esch Jr and Tatum Thousand Sr. Eliza Gordon Jr SS and Kaylie Oimoen Sr OF will look to be the bats of the lineup this season. It is expected to be a battle at the end of who will make it out of their half sectional with many Six Rivers Teams lumped into the same groupings.

Belmont returns most of its team from 2024 and will no doubt be in the contention of the reformed Six Rivers Conference. Notable returnees for the Braves are Addy McNett Jr IF, Morgan Freeman Sr OF and Kalli Jo Hodgson Sr P/IF. The Braves half-sectional is mostly its conference foes likely setting up for a conference showdown at the end.

Juda/Albany Will look to have strong pitching but has a relatively younger group of players (two seniors and two juniors) to compete in now the combined Six Rivers Conference. “Our Conference is loaded with talent this year,” says head coach Bill Davis (16 Years 287-119, with three State appearances and nine Conference Titles). “We hope to finish with 12 conference wins," says Davis. Notable returning players include Emerson Briggs Jr P (1st Team All Conference), Anna Ellinger Sr IF (HM All Conference), Kierra Cleasby Sr IF, Phoenix Homan So CF, and Anna Bartels So LF.

Notable Losses: Myah Johnson Catcher, Avary Briggs Pitcher, Alana Durtschi SS, Allison Rhyner OF, Lavinia Rufer 1B

Newcomers: Rianna Sullivan Jr, Reegan Schmidt So, Kam Simpson So, Cheyenne Scheidegger Jr

Highland returns all of its innings in the circle as Kate Tarrell Sr will look to lead the pitching again. The Cardinals also have a new head coach this season with Tim Kosharek taking over. Anna Hennessey Sr CF and Brinleigh Bollant Jr 3B will also look to lead the team this season.

River Ridge will have to work with low roster numbers that will only allow for varsity competition this season. The Timberwolves do welcome back many players with experience at key positions however. Wade Winkers also makes a return as the Timberwolves head coach, having led the team from 2008-2019.

Monticello/New Glarus has a new head coach this season as Rick Monson takes over the program. Notably returning for the Ponies are Dalana Trumpy Sr C, Karlee Wilkins Sr CF and Molly Olson Jr SS/P. The Ponies will have some freshmen (Heidi Olson and Mallory Miller) this season to watch out for and are expected to make an immediate impact.

Argyle/Black Hawk has a strong upperclassman group of four seniors (Sara Helfvogt 2B, Maddy Lange SS (1st Team All Conference), Mya McNett P/OF (3 Yr Starting Pitcher), Ava Weigel (4 year Starter, 2x Honorable Mention All Conference and Beloit College Commit) and six juniors (Kylie Butler IF/OF (2X 1st Team All Conference), Sam Kammes IF (Honorable Mention All Conference), Brinley Meinert OF, Lexi Wonders IF/OF, Anna Moore IF, and Adrionna Ubersox DP) coming into 2025 for 18th year head coach Heidi Ganshert. With the new Six Rivers super conference, Ganshert sees the race being more challenging than the previous East/West model. The Orioles also have a strong freshman class coming in that will offer valuable contributions, says Ganshert.

Notable Losses: Alexis Rosenstiel 3 Yr Starter in OF Graduated.

Other Returnees: Brianna Wilhelmson So OF, Alexis Tegembo So OF, Paige Moen So OF, Jerzy Weigel So OF.

Pecatonica will feel the loss of five seniors a year ago but do return five starters Diana Hendrickson Sr P/1B (Honorable mention all conference), Brooklyn Jonsrud Jr C (1st team all conference at large), Mikaela Gross Sr OF, Tatum Kurschner Jr OF, Katelynn Jorenby So) to their squad. "Depth and experience at some key positions will be key for us," says first year head coach Tim Lancaster, “We have 15 girls in our program with 10 being freshman and sophomores.”

Potosi/Cassville will look to two different options at pitcher this season with Alayna Kerkhoff So and Ella Pierce Sr, both who shared innings last season. The co-op also has a new head coach this season with former assistant Erin Kerkhoff taking over. Also returning for Potosi/Cassville is Madi Weber Sr C and Delany McKillip Sr IF.

Benton/Shullsburg returns the batterymates of Jessie Ray Sr P and Ries Stluka Jr C, both all-conference selections a season ago. Mark Brant, the Head Coach of the co-op, mentioned he is looking forward to senior leadership from Ray and seniors Isabell Langkamp OF/SS, Sydney Mowry, OF/3B and Abby Heim OF. Brant did mention though several girls will be playing varsity for the first time which will be an adjustment for many. Benton/Shullsburg looks forward to games with Southwestern and Scales Mound (IL) for area bragging rights.
