Updated Football State Record Book following 2024 season

Notre Dame's Christian Collins put his name all over the state record book after his illustrious career

The 2024 high school football season was another one for the record books, as a number of players and teams etched their names in history.

Kevin Patrowsky keeps the State Record Book for the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association and has provided an updated 60-page document that is chock full of great information. Also, he's again added on to the 8-Man Football Record Book, which continues to grow. For any updates, additions, or corrections to the Record Book, please contact Kevin Patrowsky.

Below are some of the noteworthy additions to the Record Book from 2024.

2024 Highlighted ADDITIONS TO 11-PLAYER STATE RECORD BOOK

Passing Updates

  • Whitnall junior Tanner Effertz threw for 573 yards, good for a tie for fourth all-time, in a playoff loss to Reedsburg.
  • Patrick Greisen, a junior from West De Pere, secured the number eighth-best single-game passing performance with 534 yards in a playoff victory over Oshkosh North.
  • Greisen also moved into a tie for third with eight touchdown passes in that game.
  • Greisen's 3,846 passing yards in 2024 are the third-most in state history.
  • Similarly, Greisen's 49 touchdown passes last year are the third-most.
  • Stratford senior Jack Tubbs posted the second-best completion percentage in a season at 78.1%.
  • Wade Lindahl of Lourdes Academy finished his career with 8,249 passing yards, which is third in state history.

Rushing Updates

  • Notre Dame's Christian Collins became just the second player in state history to rush for more than 3,000 yards, finishing his senior season with 3,084 for the Division 3 state champs.
  • Collins rushed for 42 touchdowns, tied for fifth.
  • Collins set a new mark for most consecutive games of 200 or more rushing yards (9) and highest single-season rush yards per game (257/game).
  • Collins finished his career with 6,560 rushing yards, which is fifth all-time.
  • Collins' 95 career rushing touchdowns is fourth.

Receiving Updates

  • N/A

Scoring Updates

  • Prairie du Chien's Blake Thiry scored 284 points (47 TD, 1 two-point conversion), which is tied for tenth.
  • Verona's Tre Poteat set a new mark for most return touchdowns in a career with seven punt returns, three kick returns, and three interception returns for a total of 13.

Kicking Updates

  • Marquette's Erik Schmidt booted a 55 yard field goal, which is tied for 13th.
  • Schmidt made 28 field goals in his career, which is the fourth-most all-time.
  • Schmidt made 176 extra points and 28 field goals in his career, accounting for 260 points. That is the most points scored via kicking in state history.

Punting Updates

  • Union Grove's Tyler Van De Water set a new state record with an 81-yard punt.

Defense Updates

  • Germantown senior linebacker Cooper Catalano finished his career with a new state record of 583 tackles.
  • Kaden Smolinski of Lake Mills returned four interceptions for touchdowns, which is tied for the second-most in state history.
  • Smolinski also returned two fumbles for touchdowns, setting a new mark with six total defensive touchdowns in a season.

Team Updates

  • Reedsburg (611 yards) and Whitnall (627 yards) accounted for a combined 1,238 yards in a Level 1 playoff game, the sixth-most in state history.
  • Reedsburg's 611 rushing yards (no pass attempts) is believed to be the fourth-most in state history.
  • Badger rushed for 4,994 yards, which is the seventh-most in state history.

2024 ADDITIONS TO 8-PLAYER STATE RECORD BOOK

With the current incarnation of 8-Player Football still being very young, there were once again a significant number of additions to the Record Book this season. We will highlight some of the more prominent additions below.

Passing Updates

  • Siren's Gannen Reynolds threw for 438 yards in a win over New Auburn, which is seventh-most in 8-player state history.
  • Abundant Life/St. Ambrose senior Jonah Koon threw for 3,201 yards in 2024, which sets a new top mark for 8-player football.
  • Koon also tied the state record with 45 touchdown passes.
  • McDonell Central's Grant Smiskey finished his career with 6,237 passing yards, which is second in state history.
  • Abundant Life/St. Ambrose's Jonah Koon threw for 5,587 yards in his career, which is third.
  • Smiskey threw 80 touchdowns, which is second. Koon's 74 touchdown passes are fourth on the career list.

Rushing Updates

  • Northwood/Solon Springs senior Jared Schultz finished his career with 5,037 rushing yards, which sets a new 8-player record.
  • Schultz also finished with a state record 80 touchdown runs in his career.
  • Wisconsin Heights Cody Blicharz ran for 3,653 yards in his career, which is good for third on the list.
  • Schultz rushed for 2,015 yards in 2024, which places him sixth on the state's all-time list.

Receiving Updates

  • Abundant Life/St. Ambrose senior Jacob Koon racked up 1,652 receiving yards, which is a new state record.
  • Winter/Birchwood senior Lucas Glindt had 20 catches (for 291 yards) in a loss to Washburn in the final game of the season, setting a new state record for 8-player football.
  • Abundant Life/St. Ambrose senior Jacob Koon had 296 receiving yards in a win over St. John's NW Academies, which is eight-most in state history.
  • Koon's 22 touchdown catches last year is the second-most.
  • Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah senior Brody Feldman caught five touchdown passes in a game, which ties for third.
  • Almond-Bancroft senior Ayden Phillips caught 80 passes in the 2024 season, which is tied for second.
  • Phillips finished his career with new state records in career receptions with 247 and receiving yards with 3,721 as well as receiving touchdowns with 47.
  • Brody Feldman of Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah finished fourth on the all-time list in both receptions (149) and receiving yards (2,711)
  • McDonell Central's David Anderson caught 41 touchdowns in his career, which is second.

Total Offense

  • Jared Schultz of Northwood/Solon Springs accounted for 3,528 combined passing and rushing yards, a new record.
  • Schultz also accounted for 56 combined passing and rushing touchdowns, a new record.
  • Not surprisingly, Schultz shattered the record for career total passing and rushing yards with 9,396.
  • Schultz's 136 total passing and rushing touchdowns is also a new state record.

Scoring Updates

  • Northwood/Solon Springs senior Jared Schultz ran for 28, two-point conversions, which is the most in a single season.
  • Schultz tied the record for most two-point conversion runs in a career with 42.
  • Schultz also set a new state record with 660 total points in his career (96 touchdowns, 42 two-point conversions).

Defense Updates

  • Northwoods/Solon Springs senior Jared Schultz recorded 27 tackles in a game, which is seventh-most in state history.
  • Schultz's 191 tackles on the season are a new state record.
  • Schultz finished his career with 415 tackles, good for third on the all-time list.
  • Wisconsin Heights senior John Reader had 20 sacks on the season, a new 8-player record.
  • Reader's 37 career sacks is second on the career list.

Team Updates

  • Owen-Withee scored 629 points, the fourth-most in state history.
  • Siren beat New Auburn 76-66, as the 142 combined points are the fifth-most in state history.
