Athlete of the Week Nominees: April 28 - May 4

Kian Bystol-Flores, Cambridge

Bystol-Flores won two events and came one stroke from winning three this past week for the Cambridge boys golf team. The senior golfer started his week by taking home a first place finish at the Kohler Blue Bomber Invitational, played at the Blackwolf Run Championship Course in Kohler. Bystol-Flores shot a 71 which was three strokes better than the second place golfer. His first place finish helped Cambridge win the event as a team as well. He then finished one stroke behind teammate Fritz Knudtson at the fifth Capitol Conference mini-meet at the Lake Mills Golf Course, shooting a 36. Bystol-Flores finished his week by winning the Luther Prep Phoenix Invitational at the Watertown Country Club. He shot a 68 and won by one stroke, capping off the first week in May.

Cooper Karedes, Elkhorn

Karedes netted a pair of hat tricks as he helped lead the Elkhorn co-op lacrosse team to two wins last week. The senior midfielder netted three goals as Elkhorn knocked off Franklin 6-3 on Wednesday night and scored another three goals in a 10-8 win over Sun Prairie on Friday. Karedes has net 16 goals and assisted on 7 more in 8 games played this year. The Elks are 6-2 overall and 3-2 in the Midwest Classic, one game back of Kenosha.

Quinn Rice, Wausau West

Rice and the Central Wisconsin Wolfpack girls lacrosse team got a pair of wins last week to improve to 6-1 and take over sole possession of first place in the Bay Valley Conference standings. The junior midfielder netted four goals and assisted on another as the Wolfpack beat Kimberly 17-4 on Tuesday. Rice then came out on Thursday and had seven goals in the 14-4 win over De Pere. In seven games played this season, Rice has netted 35 goals and assisted on five others.

Mayah Skenandore, Racine Park

Skenandore has been one of the top scorers in girls soccer in the state this season and continued that trend last week in two Panther's victories. The sophomore forward ended her week by assisting on a goal in Park's 3-0 win over Burlington on Thursday. Earlier in the week however, Skenandore was incredible in a 6-1 win over Oak Creek. She netted five goals and assisted on another, accounting for all six Park scores in the Southeast Conference victory.

Sydney Vitangcol, Wisconsin Lutheran

Vitangcol tossed her third no-hitter of the year this past week and go two wins in the circle for the Wisco softball team. Monday, the senior hurler tossed a five-inning perfect game in the Viking's 13-0 win over New Berlin West. It's Vitangcol's second perfect game of the season as she struck out 13 batters on 60 pitches. She added three hits, a home run, two RBIs, three runs scored, and 2 stolen bases on offense. In a 13-1 win over Pewaukee she was 4 for 4 at the plate with 2 RBIs and a run scored. Vitangcol finished her week by pitching a complete game in a 15-1 win over New Berlin Eisenhower where she struck out 18 batters and allowed one run on two hits. She added another home run from the plate and was three for six with 4 RBIs and 2 runs scored.
