Athlete of the Week Nominees: May 12-18

Andrew Lalik, Verona

Lalik tallied a pair of four-goal games for the Verona boys lacrosse team, helping the Wildcats improve to 9-3 on the year and stay one game back of Middleton in the Big Eight standings. The senior attacker accounted for all but two of the goals in Verona's 10-6 victory over Waunakee on Tuesday. Lalik netted four goals and assisted on four more in the win. In the following 9-8 win over Neenah, Lalik netted four more goals for the Wildcats, pushing his season totals to 24 goals and 15 assists in 12 games.

Hazel Rothering, Oregon

Rothering was instrumental in leading the Oregon girls lacrosse team to a 2-1 record this past week. The sophomore midfielder starter her week off with a bang, netting seven goals and assisted on another as Oregon knocked off Middleton 14-9. She followed that up with four goals and another assist in the 10-7 win over Waunakee. Rothering concluded her week with three goals in an 18-10 loss to Lockport Township out of Illinois. On the year, Rothering has scored 41 goals and assisted on 11 in 14 games played.

Taavi Saeger, Kiel

Saeger was phenomenal on the pitch as the Kiel girls soccer team took home four wins this past week. Monday the Raiders beat Notre Dame 10-2 as the junior netted five goals and assisted on another. Kiel then took home three wins in a home tournament on Saturday, with Saeger leading the way. She netted one goal in a 5-0 victory over Shawano, had two goals in a 3-1 win over Manitowoc Lincoln, and added two assists in a 4-0 win over Ozaukee/Random Lake. On the year, Saeger has 29 goals and 11 assists in 13 games played.

Tyler Steeno, Kimberly

Steeno competed in three events this week and shot the lowest score in all three for Kimberly. Golfing in the Heart of the Valley Tournament at the Whispering Springs Golf Course in Fond Du Lac, the sophomore golfer shot a 76 and tied for the lowest round with Jonah Roehig of Kaukauna. Steeno then shot a 67 in the Sevastopol Pioneer Invitational at Horseshoe Bay Golf Course in Egg Harbor the very next day, taking home a first place finish by one stroke. In a dual with Oshkosh North at High Cliff Golf Course in Sherwood for a third straight day on the links, Steeno shot a 38, tied for the lowest round with two of his teammates.

Sawyer Young, Shiocton

Young did damage from both the plate and on the mound as the Shiocton baseball team went 3-1 this past week. In the only loss of the week, Young did pitch a third of an inning, allowing a hit and no runs in the 8-6 loss to Amherst. He then got the start against Manawa on Tuesday and pitched a five-inning perfect game. The senior struck out seven batters over his five innings of perfection in the 19-0 victory. From the plate, Young added two hits, two runs scored, two stolen bases, a walk, and an RBI. Shiocton beat Weyauwega-Fremont 4-1 on Thursday where Young added two more hits, two stolen bases, and an RBI for Chiefs. In the final game of the week, an 11-1 win over Manawa, Young went two for four with two RBIs, two runs scored, and two more stolen bases.
