Athlete of the Week Nominees: May 26 - June 1

Aidric Egge, Kickapoo

Egge has had a great junior year of track and field this spring, culminating in him advancing to the state meet in four different events. Individually, the junior trackster took home two sectional championships and a sectional runner-up. In the 200 meter dash, Egge won in a time of 22.01 seconds, setting a new school record. He also won the 400 meter dash, finishing in 49.52 seconds. He came in second in the long jump with a distance of 21-1. Lastly, Egge was on the 4x400 meter relay team that took home a sectional title with a time of 3:27.71. As a team, Kickapoo finished second at the Bangor Division 3 Sectional.

Sam Hoeft, Port Washington

Hoeft excelled on both the mound and at the plate as he aided Port Washington to an opening WIAA Regional win last Thursday over St. Augustine Prep. Taking the mound, the senior pitched three innings for the win, striking out six and allowing one earned run on one hit. He was even more impressive at the plate where he went two for five with four RBIs and three runs scored. In the bottom of the third innings, Hoeft launched a two-run home run to left field. He also added a stolen base to complete his day.

Lily Schultz, Laconia

Schultz was lights out on the mound as she pitched a pair of shutouts and led the Laconia softball team to a regional championship. Competing against North Fond du Lac in the semifinals on Tuesday, the sophomore pitcher tossed a complete game 5-0 victory. She struck out 15 batters and allowed just two hits over her seven innings of work. Schultz then again took the mound in the 6-0 win over Mayville in the regional finals on Thursday. She again tossed a complete game shutout, striking out 15 batters and allowing just four hits.

Saylor Timmerman, Lakeland

Timmerman pitched 21 innings over two regional softball games and was dominant on the mound in both. In the regional finals, the Thunderbirds squared off with Shawano where they came away with a 1-0, thirteen inning victory. Timmerman pitched all 13 innings and struck out an incredible 29 batters while allowing just six hits. She and Lakeland then knocked off Mosinee 1-0 in an eight-inning game. Timmerman struck out six batters and allowed just three hits over the eight innings of work, fueling Lakeland to a regional championship.

Reid Votis, Crandon

Votis advanced to the sectionals by tying for the lowest round of golf shot in Division 3 in regional play, and coming just two strokes shy of the record for any division during regionals. Competing in the Crandon regional held at Antigo Bass Lake Golf Club in Deerbrook, the sophomore golfer shot a one under par to take home top honors. His score of 70 was twelve strokes better than the second place finisher. The Crandon boys golf team won the regional as a team, tallying 344 total points.
