The Wisconsin Dairy Athlete of the Month sponsored by WisSports.net (WSN) in partnership with Dairy Farmers of Wisconsin (DFW) aims to connect consumers with Wisconsin’s dedicated dairy farmers and the youth who grow and raise food for their local communities.
DFW and WSN are recognizing high school student-athletes who are actively involved on a Wisconsin dairy farm and participate in at least one WIAA-sanctioned varsity sport. Dairy is a vital part of the economy in nearly every Wisconsin county, whether urban or rural. Family-owned farms, dairy processors and dairy-related businesses generate thousands of jobs and millions of dollars of economic activity while contributing to local income and tax revenues.

Sports:
Grossman: Volleyball - Setter, right side hitter, four-year varsity letter winner, captain, honorable mention All-Conference, 2nd team All-Conference, 1000 assists award, Individual Academic All-State.
Basketball - Point guard, four-year varsity letter winner, captain, honorable mention All-Conference, Academic All-State (Individual and team).
Softball - Pitcher, short stop, captain, four year varsity letter winner, Panther award.
How do you balance farm, school and athletics?
Grossman: Time management is something that is very important, making sure I get what needs to be done before I do something fun. Farming is important on our family farm, so I try to get my schoolwork done at school so my nights are spent playing sports followed by the farm chores.
What hobbies / interests do you have outside of dairy farming?
Grossman: I have been playing volleyball, basketball and softball since I was in 3rd grade. Outside of sports, I like to do anything that involves being active: running, biking, swimming, pickleball, hiking, etc. I also love spending time with my siblings and friends. I like shopping and scrapbooking too.
How else are you involved in your local community?
Grossman: I am the president of our FCCLA; our goal is to primarily give back to the community through fundraisers. I am also the president of Student Council which plans most of the school activities for students. I am in NHS as well; both NHS and Student Council do a lot of volunteering around the community. I am very involved in my church (St. Joachim's Catholic Church) and I do a lot of volunteering for the church. In addition, I am very involved in helping all of the Pittsville Youth Sports Programs. I volunteer at camps and tournaments; referee basketball games; and work in the concession stands for events. I am also in FFA, and I help fundraise for the program.
ON THE FARM
What is your farm story and how long have you been involved in the operation?
Grossman: My dad bought our farm when I just born, so I grew up on our farm and I have been involved in our family farm since I was walking. I started being helpful with the chores when I was five or six. I would do the easy jobs and I would also ride in the tractor with my dad.
What is your role on the farm?
Grossman: I help with almost every part of our farm but my two main jobs I do daily are feeding the cows and milking the cows.
Who do you farm with?
Grossman: I farm with my parents, Dan and Tara, and my five siblings; Derek is 19, Kailyn is 15, Alleah is 13, Tyler is 11 and Riley is 8.
What is your favorite part of being involved with the farm?
Grossman: Being able to keep the family farm going with my siblings!
Where does your farm ship its milk?
Grossman: Our milk goes to Dairy State Cheese in Rudolph, Wisconsin.
What product is your milk turned into?
Grossman: Most of the milk at Dairy State is turned into different types of cheese.
What sustainability practices do you employ on your farm?
Grossman: We use crop rotation, water management and conservation tillage. We are also looking at installing drain tile in the future.
What is your most proud moments or farm achievements/awards?
Grossman: Our volleyball and girls' basketball teams have enjoyed tremendous success, thanks in large part to our outstanding group of seniors. In both sports, we came just one win away from earning a spot in the state tournament.
Future plans:
Grossman: I will be going to UW-La Crosse for Biology on the Chiropractic track.
