The 2025 WFCA Eight-Player All-Star Game showcased everything that is great about this week, and everything that is great about the growing sport of eight-player football. There was plenty of offense by both squads, but ultimately the North team pulled away for a 53-32 victory over the South at Friday's WFCA All-Star contest.
The teams combined for 1,037 yards of offense and neither punted, as it was back-and-forth action all day.
Jared Schultz of Northwood/Solon Springs ran for 215 yards and three scores and threw for 96 yards and two touchdowns as the South team had no answer for him or anyone else on the North. Brock Naessen (Shell Lake) rumbled his way to 130 yards and two touchdowns as well, wearing the number 55 proudly in the backfield. he also caught three passes for 79 yards and a touchdown.
It was Schultz that got the scoring started, rushing in from 11 yards out just two-and-a-half minutes into the game, as the North took an early 6-0 lead. The South 8-Player All-Star Team answered quickly, taking its only lead of the game with 6:28 left in the first half when Jonah Koon (Abundant Life) found Ayden Phillips (Almond-Bancroft) for a 20-yard touchdown, as Brody Feldmann added the two-point run to go ahead 8-6.
The lead lasted barely a minute, as the North would get two more scores in the first quarter, a 44-yard rushing touchdown by Schultz and a two-yard scoring plunge by Naessen, leading 22-8 at the end of the first period.
Jacob Koon (Abundant Life) scored on a short run to pull the South within 22-14, but the North answered just 1:11 later as Schultz found Naessen on a throwback pass for a touchdown. After Jonah Koon found Wes Kraisinger (Highland) for a score midway through the second quarter, the North extended the lead again with just two seconds remaining in the half as Schultz hit David Andersen (McDonell Central) for a six yard score, putting the North up 38-20 at halftime.
The teams traded scores in the second half, but the South was never able to get it inside a two-score game.
Zander Jones (Montello) led the South with 175 yards on 19 carries, while Felmann added 48 yards on the ground. Jonah Koon completed 18-of-32 passes for 291 yards and four touchdowns in the game, as Ayden Phillips was the beneficiary of eight catches for 168 yards and two scores. Jacob Koon caught six passes for 54 yards, while Feldmann hauled in a touchdown, as did Kraisinger.
Despite being out-gained, the North team held off the South squad for a 19-12 victory in the WFCA Small School All-Star Game at UW-Oshkosh on Saturday afternoon.
North had a chance to salt it away in the closing moments, but the South was able to force and recover a fumble with 1:33 remaining to keep their hopes alive. However, despite crossing midfield, a final desperation pass at the buzzer was broken up, preserving the victory for the North.
The North Small School All-Star Team never trailed in the game, getting on board first when Bryce Gullixon (Kiel) went in from three yards out to cap an 11-play, 73-yard drive to begin the game.
The lead was pushed to 12-0 late in the second quarter, when Drew Kortz (Freedom) found Braeden Little (Ladsymith) from 30-yards out for a touchdown with a minute left until halftime.
While the first half belonged to the North team, out-gaining the South 151-82, the second half saw the South finally able to get things going offensively. The South took the opening kick of the second half for a score, capped off when Jackson Menzel (Lake Country Lutheran) found Anders Stakston (Westby) for a touchdown, making the score 12-6.
The game would get tied up early in the fourth quarter when Menzel hit Kiefer Parish (Cambridge) for a touchdown, with the failed conversion attempt leaving the game tied at 12 heading down the stretch.
The North team was able to answer, however, as Sam Ersland (Wisconsin Dells) rambled 51 yards down the right side for a go-ahead touchdown, as Alex McCormick (Grantsburg) booted home the extra point to provide the 19-12 final margin.
Ersland led the North with 68 rushing yards on nine carries. Drew Kortz completed six-of-eight passes for 108 yards and a touchdown. Braeden Little caught four passes for a game-high 89 yards and a touchdown.
Jackson Bender (Royall) rushed for 93 yards on just three carries, while Jackson Menzel completed 11-of-19 passes for 108 yards and two touchdowns. Ethan Feldner (University School) was the top receiver for the South, catching five passes for 52 yards.
The North team controlled thrings throughout, taking advantage of three South interceptions to post a 28-6 victory in the WFCA Large School All-Star Game at UW-Oshkosh on Saturday evening.
Several big plays in the passing game, including a pair of touchdown passes from Michael Thiede (Slinger) to Tay Ferguson (Eau Claire Memorial), helped lift the North squad to victory. It was a Thiede to Ferguson 45-yard touchdown pass that opened the scoring in the game, early in the second quarter. The duo would connect again in the fourth quarter to help put things away.
Thiede completed four-of-eight passes for 122 yards and two scores in the game, as his partner at the quarterback spot, D.C. Everest’s Logan George, had a nice game as well, completing seven-of-nine for 55 yards and a score.
The North defense was active throughout, and helped close the deal late in the fourth quarter with back-to-back sacks.
Paxton Rothemeier (Medford) ran hard for the North, leading the team with 53 yards on seven carries. D.C. Everest's Blake Bangston added 51 yards on the ground. Eau Claire Memorial receiver Tay Ferguson caught four passes for 67 yards and two scores, while Kaukauna's Parker Schuh hauled in three passes for 74 yards and a score.
The South was led in rushing by Owen Preimesberger (Mount Horeb/Barneveld) with 50 yards, while Joey Kallay (Franklin) completed 14-of-23 passes for 139 yards. Racine Case's Leo Chiapetta went four-for-10 for 114 yards and a score. Peyton Roby-Brown (Marquette) hauled in four passes for 69 yards and a touchdown to lead the South team.
