The basketball community in Wisconsin is hurting today with the news of serious health issues for two respected high school coaches in the state.
John Chekouras of Mequon Homestead and Norb Wishowski, a former coach at Milwaukee Pio Nono, Milwaukee Thomas More and Burlington Catholic Central, have sustained serious health problems in recent weeks.
Chekouras status is critical after he collapsed while jogging on May 28 in Mequon. The Beloit native and long-time coach at Homestead went down about two blocks from his home near a bank in the city, and was later put into an induced coma. He has not come out of the coma and the situation is currently critical.
Wishowski recently fell onto his garage floor and is also in ill health. A Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame member, Wishowski retired from coaching three years ago. He led Catholic Central to the 2001 WIAA Division 4 state championship and Thomas More to the 1988 Class A WISAA state title.
Please keep coach Chekouras and coach Wishowski and their respective families in your prayers.
