Team: Wisconsin Blaze 16U
Coach: Justin Mallett
Roster:
Ryan Brost, 6-4, PF, Class of 2008, Medford: Earned honorable mention all-league honors in the Lumberjack Conference after helping Medford to a 7-14 record as a sophomore ... One of the key interior players for the Blaze ... A two-year varsity performer at Medford ... From Coach Mallett: "Ryan is a very tough kid who rebounds the ball very well. He needs to get a little more polished offensively, but he plays hard and aggressive each time on the floor."
Jordan Fischer, 6-4, WG/SF, Class of 2008, Wausau East: Split time between the varsity and junior varsity team at East during the 2005-06 season ... The younger brother of former East standout Ben Fischer ... Can play multiple positions ... From Coach Mallett: "Jordan is taller and a bit more athletic than Ben. He can play either guard spot or even either forward spot. He has a long wingspan and he can cause havoc on defense."
Jake Gollon, 6-6, WF/PF, Class of 2008, Stevens Point: A two-year varsity performer for coach Dan Fink at Stevens Point ... An athletic and active combination forward who seems to improve each time he steps on the court ... From Coach Mallett: "Jake is a very versatile player who can play either forward position. His offensive ability is improving. I think Jake will open a lot of eyes because hes getting to the point where he can take bigger guys off the dribble. Hes improved his game on the defensive end of the floor as well. He needs to add some strength and muscle to round out his game."
Mike Griffin, 6-3, WG/SF, Class of 2008, Iola-Scandinavia: Ranked No. 21 among prospects in the class of 2008 by Wishoops.net ... Earned first-team all-league honors in the Small Division of the Central Wisconsin Conference after helping Iola-Scandinavia to the league championship ... The Thunderbirds finished 19-6 overall and advanced to the WIAA Division 3 sectional finals before bowing to Manitowoc Roncalli ... A deadly perimeter shooter with excellent shooting range ... From Coach Mallett: "I havent seen a better offensive player than Mike from northern Wisconsin in a long time. His range is unlimited. He can also take smaller guards into the post and hes quick enough to take kids off the dribble as well. He needs to improve his defense, but I think hes a top 15 player in his class."
Kurt Kincaid, 6-4, WF, Class of 2008, Elcho: Averaged 20 points per game and earned first-team all-conference honors in the Northern Lakes Conference as a sophomore ... An outstanding perimeter shooter ... Makes up for lack of foot speed with excellent shooting range ... From Coach Mallett: "Kurt is a classic spot-up shooter. If he has his feet set, you can almost count the points. Hes a natural small forward who is a consummate team player. He always puts the welfare of the team first."
Dan Maultra, 6-1, PG, Class of 2008, Stevens Point: Played on the varsity squad at Stevens Point last season ... The starting point guard for the Blaze ... From Coach Mallett: "Dan is a point guard in the classic sense of the word. Hes concerned about getting the ball to other people before looking to score himself. He handles pressure defenses very well and is a team oriented player. He needs to improve his perimeter shooting."
Derrick Nillissen, 6-0, WG, Class of 2008, Bowler: One of the top perimeter shooters in northern Wisconsin ... Poured in 38 points in Bowlers WIAA Division 4 regional semifinal victory over Tigerton ... Earned honorable mention all-conference honors as a sophomore ... From Coach Mallett: "Derrick is an excellent shooter who can get hot in a hurry. He has the ability to create his own shot and he can play some point guard as well. His footwork on defense needs to improve."
Mitch Sutton, 6-1, WG/SF, Class of 2008, Stevens Point: One of the top football prospects in the Wisconsin Valley Conference as a running back ... Also a standout defender in basketball ... A two-year varsity performer for coach Dan Fink at Stevens Point ... From Coach Mallett: "Mitch is quick and athletic and is a terror on defense for our team. Hes our backup shooting guard and small forward. Hes a physical player who is working to improve his offense."
Bryan Zdroik, 6-0, WG, Class of 2008, Stevens Point: Played on the junior varsity squad at Stevens Point in 2005-06 ... One of the top defenders for the Blaze ... From Coach Mallett: "Bryan is a good shooter who has the ability to get hot at a moments notice. His defensive ability has helped us. Hes a very aggressive player."
Nick Zillman, 5-11, WG, Class of 2008, Wausau East: A two-year varsity performer for coach Jason Teske at East ... Could play some point guard at East during the 2006-07 campaign ... From Coach Mallett: "Nick is a good offensive player. His defensive ability has improved from a year ago. Hes a very aggressive and physical player who is learning how to play at the point as well as on the wing."
