Devron Bostick of Racine St. Catherines has given a verbal commitment to attend Youngstown State and play basketball for the Penguins.
Bostick, a 6-foot-5 swing player ranked ninth among state players in the class of 2006 by Wishoops.net, led St. Catherines to a 27-0 record and the WIAA Division 3 state championship. He averaged a team-best 17.2 points per game and 6.4 rebounds per outing while shooting 56.7 percent from the floor and 70 percent from the free-throw line.
Bostick, who also played a vital role for coach Bob Letsch at St. Catherines a year ago when the Angels defeated Seymour for the WIAA Division 2 state title, earned first-team all-state honors from the Associated Press and second-team all-state laurels from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel/Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association.
"I visited Youngstown State on Thursday and Friday and just came away feeling very comfortable with the coaches and the players," Bostick said. "The campus was also very nice."
Youngstown State is a member of the Horizon League, a NCAA Division I conference that also includes UW-Green Bay and UW-Milwaukee. The Penguins finished 7-21 overall and 4-12 in the league in 2005-06 under coach Jerry Slocum.
"I think I have a chance to go to Youngstown and make an immediate impact," Bostick said. "Im going to concentrate on improving my ball handling, shooting, strength and defense."
Bostick, who plans to study graphic design, said the Youngstown State coaches plan to use him at both forward positions.

Milwaukee Thomas More senior Tony Mane has verbally accepted a scholarship offer from Chicago State University, a NCAA Division I school that competes in the Mid-Continent Conference.
Mane, a 6-2 combination guard, led the state of Wisconsin in scoring during the 2005-06 campaign by pouring in 670 points in 22 games for an average of 30.45 ppg.
Mane scored a season-high 45 points in a victory over Hortonville in the Whitefish Bay Dominican Tournament on Nov. 26. He scored 40 or more points four times as Thomas More finished 12-10 overall and 7-7 in the Woodland Conference.
"The main reason I selected Chicago State is it has a 99 percent placement rate for students in its physical education program," Mane said. "I'm going to college for academics first and basketball second."
Mane is the second Thomas More player to earn a scholarship to Chicago State. Current UW-Whitewater guard Anthony Mlachnik accepted a scholarship from Chicago State after helping Thomas More to a 21-2 record during the 2001-02 season. Mlachnik spent one year at Chicago State before opting to transfer.
Chicago State finished 11-19 in 2005-06 and the Cougars advanced to the Mid-Continent Conference title game before falling to Oral Roberts.
"I felt very comfortable with the coaches and the players, and I just loved the campus," Mane said of his visit to Chicago State three weeks ago. "Chicago State is a program on the rise after finishing just one game from the tournament last season. Overall, it was the best situation for me."
Mane selected Chicago State over Cal-Irvine, Minnesota State-Moorhead and UW-Whitewater.

DuBois, a 6-5 forward, started 27 of 29 games as a true freshman in 2005-06 and averaged 28.6 minutes, 8.4 points and 4.8 rebounds per contest.
