Former Milwaukee Marshall standout Michael Taylor has given a verbal commitment to attend Iowa State University and play basketball for new coach Greg McDermott.

Taylor, a 6-foot-3 combination guard, helped Chipola Junior College in Florida to a 62-8 record over the past two seasons. He earned all-Panhandle Conference honors in each of the past two seasons.

A year ago, Taylor averaged 13 points, five rebounds and four assists per game while shooting 40 percent from three-point range. He selected Iowa State over Minnesota, Mississippi, Houston and Tennessee.

New Iowa State assistant coach T.J. Otzelberger, a Milwaukee native, served as an assistant coach at Chipola during Taylors freshman season.

Taylor earned all-Milwaukee City Conference honors while playing for coach Demetri Beekman at Milwaukee Marshall. He also participated in the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) All-Star game, scoring 14 points in the Souths 106-99 overtime victory over the North in 2004.

A 6-3 forward who averaged 17.2 points per game as a senior, Ethridge earned first-team all-Big Rivers Conference honors while leading the Huskies to a 12-8 record. He was also chosen as a first-team all-Northwest performer by the Eau Claire Leader-Telegram.

Ethridge selected Wartburg over Viterbo University and Coe College.

Former Cadott coach Oliver Drake is an assistant coach for Wartburg, which has won the past two Iowa Conference championships.

Four Wisconsin prep standouts have given verbal commitments to play for coach Wayne Wagner at Viterbo University.

Jerrod Bucholtz of Durand, Ryan Meyer of Holmen, Dusty Hines of North Crawford and Tavaris Smith of Brown Deer plan to compete for the V-Hawks, a NAIA Division II school in La Crosse.

Bucholtz is a 6-5 forward who earned first-team all-Northwest honors after averaging 16.7 points per game for Durand.

Meyer is a 6-2 guard who earned first-team all-Mississippi Valley Conference laurels while helping Holmen to a 17-8 record.

Hines is a 5-10 guard and the younger brother of former Viterbo standout Kyle Hines. Playing for his father, Gary, at North Crawford, Dusty Hines earned first-team all-league honors as a senior en route to helping the Trojans capture the Ridge & Valley Conference title.

Smith is a 6-0 guard who earned second-team all-Parkland Conference honors as a senior at Brown Deer.
