From Coach Weiner: "Matt is really an exciting player. He can create well for himself or others. He is especially good in the open court. Everybody wants to play with Matt because he makes everybody around him better. Hes the engine that really drives us."
Alex Welhouse, 6-5, WF, Class of 2008, Kaukauna: Ranked No. 9 among state prospects in his class by Wishoops.net ... Excellent combination of size and skill ... Second-leading scorer for a Kaukauna squad that went 13-10 and lost to Ashwaubenon in the WIAA Division 1 sectional semifinals ... From Coach Weiner: "Alex is a great offensive player. He is a great shooter who can also attack the basket. He is mobile and quick for a 6-foot-5 player. He really is a versatile offensive player."
Aristotle Wurtz, 6-1, WG, Class of 2008, Waupun: Son of Waupun coach Lucky Wurtz ... Earned honorable mention all-league honors in the Lakes Division of the East Central/Flyway Conference after helping Waupun to 15-8 record ... From Coach Weiner: "If there is a better shooter in the state than Aristotle, I havent seen him. Comes from a great basketball family. He can really shoot it. A very unselfish player and an excellent team player."
Kieran Weed, 6-5, PF, Class of 2008, Laconia: A first-team all-league performer in the Rivers Division of the East Central/Flyway Conference ... A physical interior defender with outstanding jumping ability ... From Coach Weiner: "Kieran has great hops. He will help us in so many ways, especially as an interior defender. He plays bigger than his height because of his jumping ability. Hell be a real weapon for us on the inside because of his intensity."
Mike Mullins, 6-4, PF, Class of 2008, Appleton East: Played a huge role in Easts come-from-behind victory over Appleton West in the WIAA Division 1 sectional semifinals ... Hit three shots from three-point range in the fourth period to propel East over West ... Provides the Blizzard with a physical presence in the lane ... From Coach Weiner: "An absolute beast on the boards. He is especially effective as an offensive rebounder. He has become a three-point shooting threat as well so he is very versatile. Just a strong, tough kid."
Matt Clarke, 6-4, WF, Class of 2008, Appleton East: A lanky forward prospect with advanced skills ... Can knock down the three-point shot or score off the dribble ... An honorable mention choice in the FVA as a sophomore ... Figures to team with Coenen and Mullins to provide East coach John Mielke with a solid nucleus over the next two seasons ... From Coach Weiner: "Matt Clarke has a ton of talent. Hes a very good rebounder who is gifted offensively in that he can shoot the three or take it to the basket. He has great moves around the basket."
Adam Bell, 5-10, WG, Class of 2008, Appleton East: Led the East junior varsity squad in three-pointers made ... Figures to stretch defenses because of his ability to knock down the three ... From Coach Weiner: "Adam can really shoot the three. With Matt Coenens ability to drive to the basket, Adam gives us another excellent three-point shooting threat. Hes a heady player who will help us because of his ability to shoot."
Peter Konz, 6-7, C, Class of 2008, Neenah: At 6-foot-7 and 285 pounds, Konz is considered one of the top football prospects in the Fox Valley area ... Played primarily on the Neenah junior varsity squad last season, but figures to be a key component for coach Chas Pronschinske in 2006-07 ... From Coach Weiner: "Peter is an agile player who a guy his size. He is a good passer out of the post, which is important because we run a lot of four out, one in sets. He brings a football mentality to the basketball court."
Tyler Clemons, 6-3, WF, Class of 2008, Appleton North: Played on the junior varsity squad at North last season ... Figures to be a key player for coach Greg Huenink at North in 2006-07 ... From Coach Weiner: "Tyler is a versatile player who can shoot the three. He has a scorers mentality, and hes an intelligent player. Hes a good chemistry player for our program."
