Week 9 WSN Coaches Poll

Division 1

Milwaukee Vincent remains on top of the poll with an undefeated 12-0 record.  Probably the biggest game in Division 1 last week was #4 De Pere hosting #5 Sheboygan North.  De Pere has been provided a big lift with the return of senior Claire Steffen, a first team all-state selection last year.  While she only scored 6 points, the Ritchie sisters (senior Adrian and sophomore Jillian) combined for 33 and helped the Redbirds to a dominating 58-41 win.  De Pere held fast at #4 while Sheboygan North dropped to #12 with their second loss of the season.  Former #15 Homestead was the only other ranked team to suffer defeat and dropped out of the poll in favor of a surging Muskego team, winners of 10 straight (their only loss was by five points at Milwaukee Vincent).  Milwaukee Vincent and #3 Milwaukee King will finally play their first head-to-head game tonight at King.  The winner will probably be #1 next week.

Division 2

#1 Columbus kept rolling this week, and are the only undefeated team left in Division 2.  Former #4 Durand suffered their first loss last night, a 46-44 defeat at the hands of Fall Creek.  #6 Reedsburg fell to Sauk Prairie, while #7 New London lost twice in the past week.  Durand fell to #9, Reedsburg to #11, and New London dropped completely out of the Top 15.  Last week's big game was #3 Freedom travelling to #10 Ripon on Friday night.  The Tigers pulled out a 70-66 overtime win thanks to more heroics from Taylor Wurtz.  With the win Ripon moves to #6 with Freedom right behind at #7.  Richland Center (winners of nine straight after starting the season 0-3) and Hayward are newcomers to the poll at #14 and #15 respectively.

Division 3

Once again, the top nine teams made it through the week without a loss.  Cuba City is still #1, but with nine unbeatens in this division, it is wide open.  #10 Parkview went down at the hands of McFarland and sophomore Kaitlynn Eversoll's 33 points.  Due to the strength and depth of this division, the loss dropped the Vikings all the way out of the poll.  Kenosha St. Joe's lost as well and was dropped from the rankings.  Cambridge and Roncalli have been impressive lately and enter at #14 and #15 respectively.  Hurley is still undefeated and have moved up to #11.  The Midgets have put up some NBA Jam-style numbers this year, including going over the 100 point mark for the second time last night.  They've had a total of four games with over 90 points and lead the state in scoring at 74.3 points per game.  Hurley also leads in margin of victory at 44.3.

Division 4

We've had intrigue up and down the rankings in this division all year.  This week was no different.  The big story was #2 Black Hawk and #4 Potosi meeting twice in less than a week.  The teams split the games, with each winning on their own home court.  The teams didn't move much in the rankings, with Potosi occupying the #3 spot (thanks to winning the most recent matchup) and Black Hawk at #4.  Former #5 and three-time defending state champion Flambeau suffered their second loss of the season (something that hasn't happened since 2004) and slid to #8.  The only newcomer to this week's poll is Saint Mary Central, taking the spot of Randolph.
