Before we jump in with both feet to the new prep season we have two more AAU programs to catch up with and one new one on the horizon.

WISCONSIN FAST BREAK SELECT

This past summer, the Wisconsin Fast Break Select Team went 30-7 while playing on the national circuit in tournaments in Wisconsin, Illinois, Ohio, Texas and Las Vegas.  An impressive number of the select players have been recruited by D1 programs and several of them have made their choices on where they will be playing next year.  Among the most noted is future UW Badger, Taylor Wurtz, who just signed her nation letter of intent last week.  In addition to Taylor, other Fast Break players that are going DI or DII include Stephanie Running (Drake), Catie O Leary (Loyola of Chicago), Leah Sevcik (Davenport University), Leslie Schaefer (Kent State), Kate Glodowski (Michigan Tech) and Marieanna Dulas (Winona State).  Three other girls, Laura Atkinson, Ellie Pearson and Tristan Weiner were also on the team and Coach Paul Biddick expects they too will be announcing college decisions in the near future.

WISCONSIN HOOPS SELECT

This past AAU season, the Wisconsin Hoops Select 14U girl s basketball team won the 2008 Division 1 Wisconsin State AAU Championship played in Menomonie, WI the weekend of April 25-27.  This team went on to place fifth at Nationals in Virginia Beach, VA later in July.   Several Wisconsin Hoop Select Girls were named to the All-Star Team at the Adidas Mid-American Challenge played in Champaign, IL in May.

WISCONSIN LAKERS BASKETBALL CLUB

Last summer was a busy one for the Wisconsin Lakers Basketball Club.  Their 17U Black Team was 46-12 for the season and played in tournaments such as the Windy City, Penn State Blue Chip Invite, Nike Cup in Chicago, Nike Oasis in Phoenix and the Adidas Showtime in Los Angeles.

The most notable finish was a championship at the Nike Grand Oasis in Phoenix, Arizona.

Players on that championship team include:

Keira Al-Mohareb – Whitnall (2009)

Janelle Bagneski – Lake Mills (2008)

Carol Cayo – Lake Mills (2008)

Four girls from their 2008 class have now started their college careers.  Those girls are – Jenna Endisch (Alaska Anchorage), Carol Cayo (MSOE), Janelle Bagneski (Davenport University) and April Mielke (Marshaltown Junior College).

WISCONSIN ACADEMY AAU

There is a new AAU program in town…the Wisconsin Academy out of Stoughton has emerged on the AAU scene.  This program offers something very different for some girls.  The program has strong ties to the Capital City Volleyball program that is run out of the Stoughton facility as well and the two have found a way to work together.  What does that mean?  Girls that have the desire to participate in both basketball and volleyball AAU will now have a program that works together to make that possible.  Practice times and facility use all are coordinated to make it possible for girls to do both.   However, this program is not only geared toward volleyball girls.  That is merely a draw for some families.  The Academy will be offering a competitive coaching staff, practices all at one facility, and entrance into a variety of basketball tournaments.  Wisconsin Academy is going to be filling spots for next summers AAU program throughout the winter and spring.  Please visit www.wisconsinacademyaau.com for more details about the program.  Here s your chance to be part of the inaugural season for Wisconsin Academy.
