Leah Sevcik, Olympian Conference Player of the Year last year, has committed to Davenport University in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She will sign a national letter of intent for a full tuition scholarship to the NAIA member school. Her decision came after an official visit last weekend.
Aside from being conference player of the year, she was also a first team division 3 selection last year as well. She averaged 12.5 points per game as well as 10.5 rebounds per game last season and led her Roncalli Jets to a 17-1 Olympian Conference record.
Davenport Coach Mark Youngs plans to use Leah in the post, but with her improved ability to shoot the three and handle the ball, she may be able to see time on the court in other spots as well.
Roncalli coach John Stelzer thinks that Leah s greatest strength is her work-ethic. "Her family has instilled a great set of values in this young lady." That holds true not only on the court, but off the court as well as Sevcik currently holds a 3.8 GPA.
"I m happy for Leah with the reward of a scholarship," Stelzer says. "I believe that Davenport will be a good fit for her personally, academically, and athletically. I look forward to her continuing her growth this year and in her future."
