Thursday Prep Baseball Round-Up (With More No-Hitters)

The list of no-hitters thrown in the state just keeps growing.  To our knowledge there have been 11 no-hitters already this year, including an amazing 5 on Tuesday, April 6 alone.  I'll be keeping a list of all the no-hitters thrown this year, which you can check out here.  Speaking of lists, make sure to check out the Links portion of the blog for some prep baseball related links and websites.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel has up some good stuff including an article on the expanded schedule available to teams this year, a season preview with the pre-season coaches poll and players to watch, and some area conference previews.

Speaking of previews, here's some more:  the Rosholt Hornets as they try to return to state; Pacelli, who will take on any comers regardless of size; West De Pere looking to repeat as state champion; some Stevens Point-area teams; and an experienced Eau Claire Regis squad.

Way up in the northern part of the state, Superior High School has had to resort to unusual measures to get games in, what with it staying much colder (not to mention snowier; I think I just made that word up) up there in early April.  The Spartans played at the Metrodome on April 5 versus Duluth Central, something many teams do (Baraboo-Richland Center and Jefferson-Elkhorn are some other Wisconsin games to occur there this year).  But this game had an opening pitch time of 4 a.m.  Wow, that's a late night/early morning.  The game ended up being suspended at 6 a.m. (maybe everyone was falling asleep, I'm not sure) and will be resumed on April 16th.

Speaking of trips to play games, the La Crosse Central baseball team is in Florida playing games at the Disney Wide World of Sports Complex.  Several other Wisconsin baseball and softball teams have done that in recent years as well.  The Central program tried just about every fundraising effort under the sun to make it happen.

In some not so magical kingdom news, the North Fond du Lac baseball team has cancelled it's season due to low player turnout.  They hope to field a team last year.  That's quite a fall for a team that was just one game away from state back in 2005.
