Friday, September 5, 2008 will be a busy day in the mind and heart of Green Bay Notre Dame defensive end Hunter Charneski (6-1, 230).
Not only do the Green Bay Notre Dame Tritons play host to the Green BayEast Red Devils in Fox River Classic Conference action, but the dayalso has a more sentimental and personal meaning to Charneski.
"My father passed away when I was a freshman, September 5, 2005 to beexact," Charneski said. "I will carry on my football career knowing heis with me at all times to be the best that I can be in the classroom,on the field and in life."
It's that type of drive and determination that helped Charneski total17 solo tackles, eight assisted tackles, six tackles for loss, sixsacks and one fumble recovery as a junior last season.
It has also influenced his personal and team goals for the 2008 season.
"Individual goals – make first-team all-conference, all-area andpossibly an all-state team. Our (team) goal is to win state, period."
A player who has a non-stop motor, good speed for his position andconsistently displays proper technique, Charneski participated in boththe Eastbay SPARQ Training Football Combine and the Nike Combine inChicago in hopes of improving his recruiting stock.
He posted a 5.12-second 40-yard dash, 4.35-second shuttle, 25-08kneeling powerball toss and 25.1-inch vertical jump for a SPARQ ratingof 56.04 at the Nike Combine back in March.
Three months later at the Eastbay Combine he recorded a 4.86-second40-yard dash, 4.4-second shuttle, 30-00 kneeling powerball toss and27.6-inch vertical jump for a SPARQ rating of 72.96 which placed him assecond best amongst participating defensive linemen.
Thanks to those results, mail has come from Minnesota, Washington,Colorado, North Dakota State, Bemidji State and University of Mary.
In addition, he was invited to and attended Northern Illinois' JuniorDay and North Dakota State's Elite Prospect Day and also participatedin summer camps at the University of Wisconsin and North Dakota State.
Charneski said he plans on making return trips to Northern Illinois andNorth Dakota State in order to take unofficial visits of both campuses.
He listed NDSU as his current favorite school.
