According to Waukesha West head coach Steve Rux, Wolverine offensive lineman Greg Peterson (6-5, 255) has given his verbal pledge to play at a Division I university next season.
"Greg verbally committed to Western Michigan last week," Coach Rux said via e-mail Sunday morning.
WMU was Peterson's only scholarship offer up to this point, but he hadgarnered interest from Northwestern, Central Michigan, Army, NorthernIowa, Illinois State, North Dakota State, South Dakota and NorthDakota. In addition, the University of Wisconsin offered Peterson anopportunity to be a preferred walk-on.
Peterson will join a WMU roster that currently boasts former Wisconsinprep athletes Ben Armer (Janesville Parker), Chris Prom (PortWashington), Lee Pethan (Hilbert), Nick Clemens (Waunakee), PaulWasikowski (Cudahy), Matt Lochmann (Arrowhead), Jeff Zipfel (KettleMoraine), Zach Davidson (Racine Park), and Drew Nowak (De Pere).
One of the most active recruiters in the state this recruiting cycle,Western Michigan had previously offered scholarships to Kimberlylinebacker A.J. Klein, Hartford Union linebacker Tyler Dippel, MadisonLa Follete linebacker Ross Elliott, Appleton North defensive end ClayGosse, Beaver Dam offensive lineman Hank Jacobs and Ladysmith defensivelineman Zach Anderson.
An honorable-mention all-conference selection last season, Peterson isranked as the No. 18 overall prospect and No. 7 offensive lineman inthe class of 2009 by WisFootball.net.
