This week's Splash of the Week travels to the far North, as the Ashland Girls Soccer Team has already put its name on the girls soccer map in this young season.

Ashland moved to 7-0 on the young season after posting 8-0 and 1-0 wins over Osceola and Rice Lake at the Warriors' Invitational Saturday. Yet not only did they remain unbeaten on the year, the Oredockers also kept a zero in the Goals-Against column-- the 'Dockers have amassed a +43 goal ratio thus far, as goal keeper Maria Langholz has kept all nine opponents' shots from hitting the net.

That's right, Ashland has only given up nine SHOTS all season, meaning the Oredockers have managed to dictate the flow of the game effectively. Senior forward Amanda Whiting recorded six goals and two assists on the week and has already racked up 11 goals and four assists on the season. Senior forward Ari Peterson had a hat trick against Osceola in the semifinal round as well, with Whiting picking up the lone goal in the title game against the host school.

Against Rice Lake in the tournament championship, the Warriors had a chance to snap the streak with an 18-yard direct free kick in the waning seconds of the game, but the shot sailed wide and Ashland remained perfect on the season.

Ashland also beat Phillips 10-0 on Tuesday and Washburn 2-0 on Thursday in Northern Lights Conference play last week.

Honorable Mention

Somerset Baseball Pitching Staff: Middle Border baseball teams beware-- the Somerset pitchers have been red-hot so far this season. A week from Saturday, Somerset hurlers Sean Conrad threw five innings, striking out 13, while Dakota Belter threw one inning and fanned two batters to shut out Plum City 11-0. This week, the Spartans got another solid pitching performance with Jared Dettmann earning the teams second no-hit game while striking out 14 batters in a 7-0 win over Prescott. Somerset is now 5-0 on the season and tied with Ellsworth, its Tuesday opponent, at 3-0 in Middle Border play.

Matt Widule, Menomonee Falls Boys Track: Widule moved into second place on the state-wide boys track honor roll in two events after an excellent performance at the West Bend Invite Friday night. The senior hurdler, already boasting the 55-meter indoor high hurdles time of 7.60, recorded two more second-bests in the state after posting a 14.51 mark in the 110-meter and another of 40.03 in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles outdoors.

Seymour Girls Soccer: The Thunder knocked off a trio of Division 1 opponents en route to a championship at the Wausau West Invite Saturday. Seymour knocked off the host Warriors 1-0, beat Eau Claire Memorial 2-0 and squeaked past Green Bay Preble 1-0 to move to 6-0 on the season. The Thunder will open Bay Conference play by hosting fellow unbeaten New London Thursday.
