Team Performances:
Kettle Moraine - Through their first three games of the season the Lasers had yet to concede more than a single goal. That streak continued in week 2 of the soccer season as they blanked their opposition. Against quality opponents Kettle Moraine dispatched two previously undefeated teams in the Pius XI Popes (4-0) and Oregon Panthers (3-0). Against Pius XI they scored early and often, winning 7 to 0. In their game with Oregon they came out on top in a defensive struggle 1 to 0. Currently the Lasers have gone an incredible 240 plus minutes of play without giving up a goal.
De Pere – The Redbirds had a successful week after coming off of their first loss of the season to an up start Madison West squad. They were able to go 2-0-1 in the last three games. Allowing just one goal that resulted in a 1 to 1 tie with Sheboygan North. In the other two contests, the score lines ended in the same 1 to 0 fashion. De Pere improves to 5-1-1 on the season.
Neenah – In the second week of the boys’ soccer season, the Rockets got off to a great start. They thrashed conference foes Kaukauna and Fond du Lac 10 to 0 and 5 to 0 respectively. The competition got a little tougher for Neenah as state semi-finalist Brookfield East, defending division 2 champions Catholic Memorial and division 1 champs Marquette took the field. However, Neenah was able to raise their level of play, defeating Catholic Memorial 3 to 1 and prevailing by one goal over East. Neenah proved impressive even in defeat, holding a dominant Marquette team to a scoreless tie in the first half before falling in the second half 3 to 0.
Saint Johnâs NW Military Academy – The Lancers season has not started out the way they had hoped; going 0-5 in their first five games. St. John’s Military Academy has been on the verge of victory on a number of occasions only to lose in a heartbreaking manner. In three games the Lancers lost by a lone goal. Against Racine Lutheran, the Lancers finally got the breaks to fall their way, this time prevailing in yet another nail biter 2 to 1. With this win, the Lancers have shown they are capable of overcoming adversity.
Oostburg – Despite playing larger schools, Oostburg proved large on the field. After losing back-to-back games by large margins to conference rival Kohler, the Flying Dutchmen rebounded and beat Cedar Grove-Belgium 4 to 0. After knocking off Columbus, Oostburg defeated Campbellsport in the Oostburg Quad. In final round robin of the Oostburg Quad the Flying Dutchmen squared off against division 1 Manitowoc Lincoln. The two battled to a scoreless draw, capping a great week for an improving Oostburg squad.
Player Performances:
Luca Vonahlen, Barron – The Golden Bears offense has been rolling and Luca Vonahlen has been the key. In his last two games Luca dropped two hat tricks and one assist on his opponents, helping lead his team to victories in both contests.
Nigel Tourdot, Monroe – On the season, Nigel Tourdot leads his Monroe team in goals scored and points with 12 goals and 4 assists. One quarter of Nigel’s season goal scoring output came in one spectacular performance against Sugar River. He tallied Monroe’s final 4 goals of the match to help the Cheesemakers win the game.
Matt Bouche, Notre Dame – Notre Dame’s one man wrecking crew has scored 4 of his teams 5 total goals in their wins over Bay Port and Fox Valley Lutheran.
Alex Conrad, Ashwaubenon –In his last four games for Ashwaubenon, Alex Conrad stopped 31 shots on goal to help preserve three victories, while keeping his team within striking distance in their 0 to 1 loss to De Pere. Conrad has averaged a respectable 1.2 goals against in Ashwaubenon’s five game stretch.
Nathan Mutsch, Howards Grove– Nathan Mutsch scorched the back of the net all week long for the Howards Grove Tigers. In their three games last week, he scored 7 goals and added 2 assists. He scored the lone goal in their loss to Kohler and scored all four goals for his team in the 4 to 0 victory over Kiel.
