At an all-school assembly Wednesday afternoon, Rhinelander High School was presented with a $1,000 check as the winners of last month's Frontier Communications Mascot Challenge conducted on WisSports.net.

The Rhinelander Hodags' selection as the state's best mascot capped 10 weeks of voting on WSN, featuring 64 schools, 63 individual polls, and more than half a million votes cast.

Presenting the check to Rhinelander were WisSports.net General Manager Travis Wilson, Frontier Communications General Manager Steven Jones, and Frontier's own mascot, Frank the Buffalo.

Rhinelander topped Hortonville in the finals, with 23,400 votes to 19,133 for the Polar Bears. The 42,533 total votes in the finals poll was the highest number of any single poll of the season.

In the 63 individual polls conducted during the 10 weeks of the Mascot Challenge, a total of 545,622 votes were cast, which is an amazing total. That averages out to 8,660 per poll. In six rounds of voting, fans and supporters of the Rhinelander Hodags cast a total of 59,933 votes.
