Tyler Herro
The trend, it would seem, is to offer at an earlier age.
Heck, even Wisconsin coach Bo Ryan has gotten into the act.
Several players in Wisconsin's ultra-talented class of 2018 have received scholarship offers from NCAA Division I coaches prior to stepping foot on campus for their sophomore years.
A lot can and will change between now and the spring of 2018 when the players in this talented class graduate.
But college basketball coaches seem to be brushing that all-important fact aside of late as more and more young high school players pick up scholarship offers.
And Wisconsin's class of 2018 is, by no means, an exception.
Let's take a quick look at some of the premier players in the updated 2018 Player Rankings released today on WisSports.net.
Top-ranked Joey Hauser, a skilled and athletic 6-foot-7 forward with size, strength and versatility, owns offers from both Ryan and Marquette coach Steve Wojciechowski, among others.
Hauser figures to become a national recruit over the next couple of years as more and more college coaches find out about his ability to play inside and outside.
Hauser's older brother, top-ranked class of 2016 prospect Sam Hauser, has already committed to Marquette, but Joey Hauser appears to be in no hurry to make a decision. And he shouldn't be as he has three more years of high school to finish before moving on to the next level.
Second-ranked Jordan McCabe of Kaukauna is a 5-foot-11 ball-handling whiz who competes with confidence and the ability to knock down clutch shots.
McCabe excelled on the travel-team circuit over the spring and summer competing with the Wisconsin Playground Warriors and already owns impressive scholarship offers from De Paul, Missouri and West Virginia, among others.
Third-ranked Tyler Herro of Whitnall played alongside McCabe in the backcourt for the Wisconsin Playground Warriors. The long, lanky, skilled 6-foot-4 wing guard owns scholarship offers from Creighton De Paul, among others, thanks primarily to his ability to make deep jump shots.
Fourth-ranked Jack Plumb of Bay Port is a physical 6-foot-7 post player who competes with toughness, energy and a positive attitude. He has picked up offers from both Green Bay coach Linc Darner and Milwaukee coach Rob Jeter.
Fifth-ranked John Diener of Cedarburg is a skilled, smart combination guard with excellent size at 6-foot-4. Diener can impact a game with his scoring, passing and rebounding while also make excellent decisions with the ball in his hands.
The son of Cedarburg coach Tom Diener, John Diener has picked up DI offers from both Green Bay and Milwaukee.
Athletic wing guard Keshawn Justice of Madison East averaged 9.1 ppg as a freshman for an East squad that went 20-7 and qualified for the WIAA Division 1 State Tournament. He can get to the basket and finish while also knocking down mid-range jump shots. Justice owns an offer from Milwaukee.
The 2018 class is nothing if not deep.
Outside of the previously mentioned players, guys like Derek Sabin (6-7) of Slinger, Carlos Curtis (6-1) of Milwaukee Riverside, Mitch Listau (6-3) of Waunakee, Tyrese Haliburton (6-3) of Oshkosh North, Mason Steffan (6-2) of Waunakee, James Butler (6-2) of The Prairie School and Preston Maccoux (6-4) of Milwaukee Pius XI appear to be on track to pick up DI offers over the next 12 months.
