State football Record Book updated following 2015 season

The 2015 high school football season was another one for the record books, as a number of players and teams etched their names in history.

Kevin Patrowsky keeps the State Record Book for the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association and has provided an updated 47-page document that is chock full of great information. Also, for the first time there is also an 8-Man Football Record Book. For an updates, additions, or corrections to the Record Book, please contact Kevin Patrowsky.

Below are new additions to the Record Book for 2015.

2015 additions to 11-Man State Record Book

Passing Updates

  • On the single-game passing yardage list, Green Bay Southwest's Clayton Ladsten is 22nd with 471 yards while Emmett Enright of Madison Memorial is tied for 23rd with 465 yards.
  • On the single-game passing touchdowns list, Clayton's Kobe Berghammer and Greendale's Mitchell Gnadt tied for 2nd on the all-time list with 7.
  • In single-season passing touchdowns, Garrett Groshek of Amherst moved into a tie for second with 41. Oconomowoc's Ben Nienhuis moved to a tie for 10th with 36, and Berghammer tied for 13th with 34.
  • Mount Horeb/Barneveld's Max Meylor moved to 6th on the career passing yards list with 7,489.
  • Amherst's Groshek moved to 6th on the career passing touchdowns list with 72, while Meylor is now tied for 10th with 69.

Rushing Updates

  • Blair Mulholland of Kimberly moved into the 4th spot on the state's all-time rushing yards list with a total of 5,821 yards.
  • Mulholland also moved to third on he single-season rushing yards list with 2,963 yards.
  • In single-game rushing yards, Micah Rudd of Edgerton went for 423 during a game in 2015 to move to 10th. DeForest's Jadon Sackman had a 407-yard game to place 15th, and Mulholland of Kimberly had 404 to place 17th.
  • Jack Dunn of Madison Edgewood set a new state record for single-game rushing yards by a quarterback with 363, and had the third-best game with 333 yards.
  • Dunn's 7 rushing touchdowns in the game he had 363 yards tied the state record for any player.
  • Toren Young of Monona Grove finished his senior year with 2,569 yards, good for 18th on the single-season list.
  • Brandon Thull of Kewaskum is now 22nd on the state's career rushing yards list with 5,289. Andrew Piske of Bangor is 25th with 5,150 yards.
  • Groshek is now 5th on the career rushing yards list by quarterbacks with 4,009 yards.

Receiving Updates

  • Dale Tygum of Madison East and Zach Clayton of Oconomowoc are tied for 21st on the single-season receptions list with 74 catches.
  • Jordan Janssen of Kimberly is 3rd on the single-season receiving yardage list with 1,513 yards.
  • Janssen also moves to a tie for 10th on the single-season touchdown receptions list with 18.
  • Southern Door's Mitchell Gerend is now 10th on the career receptions list with 158 catches.
  • Gerend also moves to 12th in career receiving yards with 2,414.

Total Offense Updates

  • Garrett Groshek of Amherst moved into 3rd place on the single-season total offense list with 3,830 yards (2,398 passing; 1,432 rushing)
  • Groshek moved into 3rd place for career total offense with 9,245 yards (5,236 passing; 4,009 rushing).

Scoring Updates

  • Darlington's Hunter Johnson scored 7 touchdowns and 2, two-point conversions for a scoring total of 46 points in a single game, placing him tied for 6th.
  • Micah Rudd and Jack Dunn each scored 42 points in a game (7 rushing touchdowns) to tie for 16th.
  • In single-season scoring, Kimberly's Mulholland had 290 points to place 6th. Bangor's Piske had 284 to place 7th. Darlington's Johnson had 256 to place 13th.
  • In career scoring, Mulholland finished with 584 to place 5th. Piske had 544 to place 8th. Kewaskum's Thull had 454 to place 29th.
  • Milwaukee King's Deandre Hill-Stanton took over the all-time record for most receiving two-point conversions with 20.

Return Updates

  • Tyler Precia of Kettle Moraine Lutheran set a new state record with 889 kickoff return yards in a single season. Seth Wilson of Holmen is 2nd with 772 yards. Jonah Backus is 4th with 581 yards.
  • Precia, Josh Cisewski of Amherst, and Eric Dlugopolski of Dominican tied a state record with 4 kickoff returns for touchdowns.

Kicking Updates

  • Lodi's Garret Wegner tied a state record with 5 made field goals in a game.
  • Wegner also moved to a tie for 6th in most made field goals in a season with 12.
  • Wegner is now 3rd in most made field goals in a career with 30.
  • Charlie Reit of Arcadia made 62 extra points on the year, good for a tie for 20th.
  • Reit moved into 4th place on the career made extra points list with 160. Wegner is 7th on that list with 153.
  • Kimberly's Adam Stage scored 97 points as a kicker, placing him 2nd on the single-season list. Wegner's 89 points place him 4th. 
  • Wegner became the all-time leader in points scored as a kicker with 243. Reit of Arcadia is now 7th with 199.

Defensive Updates

  • Jake Nixon of East Troy is tied for 15th on the single-season interceptions list with 11.
  • Trent Ingalls of Menasha set a new state record with 3 fumble returns for touchdowns in a single season.

Team Updates

  • Milwaukee Bay View became what is believed to be the first team to have a 300-yard rusher (Giantae Brooks, 326 yards) and 200-yard rusher (Isiah Wright, 229 yards) in the same game.
  • Milwaukee Bay View and Eastbrook/HOPE Christian scored a combined 132 points in a game, the 3rd most in state history.
  • Eastbrook/HOPE Christian's 58 points ties for 3rd for most points scored by a losing team.
  • Milwaukee Bay View had 723 yards of offense vs Eastbrook/HOPE Christian, which is the 3rd-highest in a single game.
  • The 1,258 combined yards by Milwaukee Bay View and Eastbrook/HOPE Christian is the 2nd-most in state history.
