Hannah Whitish of Barneveld has been named Miss Basketball by the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association. The award honors the top senior girls’ basketball player and has been given out since 1982.

“I had a big smile on my face when I found out,” said Whitish. “I'm honored to be listed among the greats in Wisconsin.”

Whitish has had an outstanding career, helping Barneveld to a 110-3 record in her four-year career, including back-to-back Division 5 state titles in 2014 and 2015.

The 5-foot-9 point guard is averaging 24.2 points, 5.2 rebounds, 4.5 steals and 4 assists per game for coach Doug Pickarts and the Golden Eagles.

She is shooting shooting 59 percent from the field and 48 percent from behind the arc.

Whitish is a dynamic guard that can take over the game with her ability to score, whether that be from behind the arc or off the dribble. She is also a terrific passer that possesses good court vision.

The Nebraska recruit has scored over 2,000 points in her career and is in the top 10 on the state’s all-time scoring list.

“I'm excited for Hannah. She has worked hard to get where she is today,” said Pickarts.

“I knew how special of a player she was when I was at DeForest. She’s a great leader that is looked up to by her teammates.”

Whitish will be presented the honor today at the Resch Center during halftime of the Division 4 championship game.
