2016-17 Team Previews:

Gold

1) Milwaukee King has captured at least a share of the past three City Gold titles and is the team to beat in 2016-17. The Generals welcome back four starters but will need to replace the production of co-POY of the conference Destinee Tooks who led the team in scoring and rebounding last season. Coach Craig Machut told WSN that they are athletic and bigger than usual. "Need to learn to play together and finish games," stated coach Machut. Sophomores Sydnee Roby and Kaye Clark highlight the group of returners for the Generals, each scoring in double-figures last season. Joining Roby and Clark as returning starters are Tishara Morehouse (Jr.) and Annaly Garcia (Soh., 6.1 PPG, 2.3 APG). Also back as a key contributor from last year's squad is junior Viveca Malendziak (5.1 PPG) while senior Jada Paterson is back after missing her junior year with an ACL injury. Milwaukee King is ranked No. 6 in the WisSports.net Preseason Top 10 in Division 1.

2) Milwaukee Riverside returns eight letterwinners from their 2015-16 squad that went 3-5 in the league, but will need to replace the production of co-POY Alona Johnson. Coach Donald Nelson told WisSports.net that guard play, ability to dictate tempo and leadership are strengths while rebounding and height are weaknesses. The Tigers top returners are Jazmine Glenn (Sr., 6.5 PPG) and Marleah Dranke (Jr., 6.7 PPG) who will be asked to take on larger scoring roles this season. Other key returners include seniors Myaiza Allen and Chanel Sims. Riverside will also look to come newcomers to be impact players this season.

3) Milwaukee School of Languages is coming off a Division 3 state runner-up finish. The Hawks will need to replace their top two scorers in Zheniah Jackson and Timeah Stotts who combined to average over 33 points per game last season. The Hawks will build around Breahna Butler who finished third in scoring and led the team in rebounding last season. Fellow senior Ja'Taviah Conley-Kingsby and junior Adia Rogers will also play key roles for the Hawks. Rogers missed some time last season with a knee injury and could have a breakout year this season. Additional returning contributors include Mariaunna Allen Powell (Sr.) and Kasi Butler (Soph.). MSOL is in position to make another deep tournament run, questions for them are in depth and filling the scoring void.

4) Milwaukee Vincent might take a step back this season after going 5-3 in the league last season. The Vikings will need to replace second-leading scorer Kyla Pitts who graduated and could be without senior Albany Dodd who finished third on the team in scoring last season. Vincent will build around junior forward Savanna Crockett who led them in scoring last season. Cordelia Vales (Jr.) and Er'Niecia Nicholson (Sr.) return as contributors and will be asked to take on larger roles this season.

5) Milwaukee Washington went winless in the Gold Division and 4-15 overall last season.

Blue

1) Milwaukee Bay View/Lifelong Learning joins the Blue Division after going 14-0 in the Red Division and 21-2 overall last season. The Redcats returns all five starters led by senior Amazshea Lee who averaged 20.9 points per game in 8 games; she posted 13.4 points per contest in 12 games at West Allis Central. Other key returners are Nelinda Colon-Rodriguez (Soph., 20.2 PPG), Alexis Stone (Sr., 15.6 PPG) and Faith Watkins (Soph., 10.2 PPG).

2) Milwaukee North has won the past two Blue Division titles. Senior Raven Katherine is their top returner, averaging 8.4 points per game and receiving second team all-conference. Arianna Watkins (Sr.) is also back as a key player, earning honorable mention all-conference last season.

3) Milwaukee Hamilton finished with a 5-6 record in the Blue Division. First team all-league pick Amanda McCullough (Sr., 7.8 PPG) highlights the group of returners. C'Kyiah Fischer (Soph.) and Miranda Epps (Sr.) are back after taking home honorable mention all-conference laurels last season.

4) Milwaukee Bradley Tech went 5-6 in the Blue Division and 8-14 overall last season. Naetajah Maxey (Jr., 8 PPG) returns as a first team all-league choice while Marcea Slade (Sr.) is back after earning second team all-conference.
