For the first time, the FRCC conducted a boys hockey tournament, and the inaugural version ended in dramatic fashion over the weekend.

Notre Dame and Bay Port advanced to the tourney final, and it appeared Bay Port was going to cruise home for the first-ever FRCC tournament title, holding a two-goal lead in the third period.

Notre Dame wouldn’t go away however, getting two late goals from Bryce Poshak to force overtime.

In the extra period, it was again Poshak involved in the action, as he chased down a pass behind the Bay Port net and pushed it to Matthew Kini, who's one-timer from a few feet outside the crease found the back of the net, giving Notre Dame the first-ever FRCC tournament crown.

"That was for sure the biggest goal of my life," Kini told the Green Bay Press-Gazette. In fact, it was his first goal of the 2016-17 season.

"That's good high school hockey in a nutshell when you see two good teams like that," added Notre Dame coach Cory McCracken to the Press-Gazette. Bay Port's Mike Buchan echoed those sentiments, telling Andrew Pekarek, "It was a good battle by both sides. That's what you want to see."
