The WSN15 series will celebrate the 15th Anniversary of WisSports.net by looking back at the top players, teams, and moments of the past 15 years (2003-2017).

We begin our WSN15 series with the Top 15 Moments of the WSN Era.

TOP 15 MOMENTS: #14 - wisfootball.net launches to change football coverage in Wisconsin

The genesis of WisSports.net started on November 18th, 2002 with the launch of a website called wishoops.net to cover high school basketball in Wisconsin. Founded by Nicholas Kartos, the website would quickly take hold among high school hoops fans, and interest soon began in a corresponding football site.

In the fall of 2003, wisfootball.net was launched with statewide scores, stats, leaderboards, rankings, game video, and more.

After originally contributing to the popular message board, former Lancaster player Marlin Lee III would become the primary football writer for WSN, expanding into recruiting coverage and player rankings.

The website continued to grow, as all sites were eventually merged into WisSports.net. Additional news and blog coverage would be added over several years, with an annual Gridiron Guide football yearbook produced as well. Travis Wilson, now the WSN General Manager, became a featured writer on the site as well.

Marlin Lee was diagnosed with cancer in 2010, as Wilson took over all aspects of the football coverage. Unfortunately, Marlin succumbed to cancer in September of 2012.

Over the years, WSN's football coverage has grown to become the go-to source for hundreds of thousands of football fans, players, coaches, and media around the state, delivering in-depth information and exclusive content. Conference Previews, Player Rankings, Senior Awards, the state's only Coaches Poll, postseason breakdowns, and playoff projections all became staples of our coverage, as football fans turned to WSN for first announcement of postseason qualifiers and more.

We've developed a long-standing partnership with the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association that has been mutually beneficial for both sides. College coaches utilize WSN daily for player information and analysis.

WSN has become the go-to place for high school sports information, and that includes football. And it all started from the launch of wisfootball.net back in 2003.
