The WSN15 series will celebrate the 15th Anniversary of WisSports.net by looking back at the top players, teams, and moments of the past 15 years (2003-2017).

For the Top 15 Teams countdown, more than one season of a program was considered for inclusion on the list, as long as the seasons featured different waves of players. For example, the 2008 and 2012 teams of the same school would be considered, but not necessarily the 2012 and 2013 teams.

The Top 15 Teams countdown is not a "Who would beat who?" list, as that would be heavily weighted towards big schools. Factors in determining the Top 15 Teams included: how dominant the team was compared to contemporaries, how impressive the team was in big games, quality of competition faced, number of high-level players, and more.

Top 15 Teams: #6 - 2013 Shiocton Chiefs

There have been some incredibly dominating seasons in state history, and the 2013 Shiocton Chiefs are up there with any of them.

The Chiefs scored 668 points during the 2013 season, averaging 47.7 per game. That ranks fourth all-time in state history. The team also tied a state record with 11 shutouts in 14 games, allowing just 28 points all season.

The only close call Shiocton had during the year was a 21-14 victory over Amherst, the defending Division 5 state champion and a state semi-finalist that season.

In five Division 6 playoff games, the only score the Chiefs allowed was a third quarter touchdown to Coleman in Level 2 after being ahead 47-0 by halftime.

Shiocton defeated Iola-Scandinavia 32-0 in Level 3 before dominating Hurley 50-0 in Level 4. The Chiefs would face off against Darlington in the Division 6 state championship game.

It was almost a disastrous start for Shiocton, who saw Darlington's Jason Singer take the opening kickoff 82 yards to the Shiocton 13-yard line. Only a shoestring tackle by Chiefs' senior Talon Heinemeyer prevented a score. The defense held however, forcing a turnover on downs. Darlington would drive inside the Shiocton 25-yard line on its next drive, only to be turned away on downs again.

The first quarter ended scoreless, but it was all Shiocton the rest of the way. Jacob Van Asten scored on a four-yard touchdown run early in the second quarter, then add another short score midway through the quarter. He'd connect with Patrick Brouillard for another touchdown before halftime, and it was all Shiocton the rest of the way. After Van Asten threw his third touchdown of the game, this time to Talon Heinemeyer, with 11:09 left in the fourth, the running clock was on as Shiocton scored a 35-0 victory for its first, and only, state title.

Shiocton out-gained Darlington 365-131 in the contest, capping the season in fitting fashion with its 11th shutout. As they'd done much of the year, the senior trio of Jacob Van Asten, Talon Heinemeyer, and Patrick Brouillard were the dominant forces. Van Asten had 109 rushing yards with two scores, adding 147 yards and 3 touchdowns through the air. Heinemeyer rushed for 26 yards, threw for 36 (plus a pair of two-point conversions), and caught a pair of passes for 28 yards. Bruillard had 5 receptions for 143 yards and 2 touchdowns. Defensively they combined for 18 tackles.

On the season, Van Asten rushed for 1,753 yards and 28 touchdowns with 11 two-point conversions. He also threw for 910 yards with 16 touchdowns against just one interception, adding a pair of catches for 45 yards and a touchdown, plus two more conversions. Heinemeyer threw for 437 and 9 scores, rushing for 740 and 9 touchdowns with six conversions. Brouillard caught 36 passes for 875 yards and 15 touchdowns.

Van Asten added 120 tackles on defense from his linebacker spot, where he was a WFCA Honorable Mention All-State selection.

Dominating all season and outscoring opponents an average of 47-2, the 2013 Shiocton Chiefs are among the top teams in state history.
