Many high school basketball standouts in Wisconsin go on to big things at the college level and in the pros, and this is our spot to recognize those athletes each week and help you keep up with what is going down on some of your favorite players from the past. As the 2017 year faded away, few games were played before the holiday break to warrant an end of the year alumni round-up. Instead, we kick 2018 off with a bang and a review of some great performances over the holiday break for players across all college basketball divisions, and one from the NBA G-League.

Duane Wilson won two Division 4 state titles while attending Dominican High School. His success carried over to Marquette, where he was named to the Big-East All-Rookie team for the 2014-2015 season. He now has transferred to Texas A&M and continues to light defenses up. Wilson had a season high 23 points and 11 assists to lead A&M to an 89-73 win over Buffalo on December 21st.

As Wilson has left Marquette University, Sam Hauser is continuing to dominate there. The Stevens Point product had 29 points while shooting 7-9 from three in Marquette’s 92-51 drumming of American on the 21st.

Yet again, Northern Sun Conference play is highlighted by in-state talent. Caleb Wagner (Muskego) had 16 points and 11 assists in Winona State’s 98-66 win over Michigan Tech on the 19th leading him to be named the Northern Sun’s Southern Division Player of the Week in week 6.

Brandon Myer has been scoring at a large rate for Minnesota Duluth. That didn’t change over the holiday season. The Superior High School graduate accumulated 80 points in 3 games en route to being named the Northern Sun’s Northern Division Player of the Week in week 6.

Reed Timmer and Nick McGlynn continue to power the Drake offense throughout this season. Over the holiday break, Timmer (New Berlin Eisenhower) had two 20-point games in victories over Mid Shore and Southern Illinois. McGlynn (Stoughton) had 11 points and 11 rebounds in a win over Bradley.

Vander Blue continues to score at an alarming rate for the NBA G-League, South Bay Lakers. The Madison Memorial standout had 4 straight games over 20 points while averaging 6 assists in those contests over the past 2 weeks.

David Burrell (Milwaukee Hamilton) had a season high 18 points and 11 rebounds in East Tennessee State’s 84-65 victory over Tusculum College on December 28th. James Batemon (Milwaukee Riverside) also scored his career high, 29 points in Loyola Marymount’s 88-80 loss to CSU Fullerton on the 22nd.

Freshman Eddie Muench has quietly been having a great year for division 2 Rockhurst University. The Ripon High School product had a season high 23 points in the team’s 84-80 win over Newman College on the 30th.

Rhinelander graduate Mitchell Reinthaler had himself quite the week last week. The St. Norbert College forward averaged 17.7 points and 9 rebounds in 3 games over the holiday break. His performance earned him Nicolet National Bank Holiday’s All-Tournament honors as well as being named Midwest Conference’s Performer of the Week.

In WIAC play, George Diekelman (Stevens Point) surpassed the 1,000 career scoring mark for UW-Eau Claire. Isaac Elliott (Pacelli) also recorded a double-double, pouring in 20 points and 10 rebounds in UW-Stout’s 96-68 loss to Puget Sound.

4th ranked UW-Oshkosh got contributions all over in their three games over the break. Adam Fravert (Marshfield), Charlie Noone (Lourdes), Ben Boots (Kimberly), and Jack Flynn (Appleton West) all recorded at least one 20+ scoring game for the Tritons.

Paul Miller is as consistent as they come for North Dakota State. The Kettle Moraine High School graduate scored in double figures in 4 straight games for the Bison over the holiday season. Miller has now scored in double figures in 13 of the 14 games this season while averaging 16 points.
