Each week WSN will take a look at the happenings in the Wisconsin Collegiate Conference, which includes many of the two-year campuses in the UW system. A look back at the big performances and news from the week before, a look ahead to some of the big games coming up, plus a Player of the Week will be featured.

It has been an extremely busy last week, and while the East Division race is over, the West Division race is heating up.

UW-Washington defeated Manitowoc with ease last Wednesday, but had a pair of tight games this week. On Monday, the Wildcats topped Sheboygan 72-69 before edging Fox Valley 65-59 on Wednesday. Washington is now five games up on second-place Waukesha, meaning the Wildcats have clinched their first outright league title in 39 years. 

UW-Rock ran into a buzzsaw at UW-Richland last Wednesday, falling 96-79. The Rattlers trailed UW-Marathon by 13 points at halftime on Saturday and nearly completed an outstanding comeback, but came up a point short in an 85-84 loss. Rock would rebound with a 90-81 win over Baraboo last night, but their lead in the West Division has shrunk to just a game over Marathon.

Waukesha had quite the last eight days, winning four games. They beat the Marian JV team last Wednesday, Fox Valley on Friday, the Marian JV team again on Monday, and scored a two-point victory over Sheboygan last night.

As the season winds down, there is plenty of intrigue in WCC men's basketball. Saturday features four compelling games, including UW-Washington, who has already clinched the East title, traveling for a tough road game at Marinette. UW-Richland has been on a hot streak, winning four straight games. The Roadrunners host Marathon on Saturday, as the Huskies try to keep pace with Rock in the West Division. UW-Waukesha visits Manitowoc and Fox Valley travels to Sheboygan.

Monday night is the big game many have been waiting for. Twice postponed already, West-leading UW-Rock will travel to East champion UW-Washington. Rock needs wins to stay atop the division, but the teams certainly could meet again in the WCC tournament.

UW-Marathon has pulled within a game of West Division-leading UW-Rock. Last Wednesday, the Huskies blew out Marshfield 100-58. Jake Joslin (Port Edwards HS) had 20 points and 10 rebounds in the game. On Saturday, Marathon scored a huge victory over Rock, as Joslin had another double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds in the 85-84 victory.
