Each week WSN will take a look at the happenings in the Wisconsin Collegiate Conference, which includes many of the two-year campuses in the UW system. A look back at the big performances and news from the week before, a look ahead to some of the big games coming up, plus a Player of the Week will be featured.
There were just four contested games in the WCC in the last week. Two of them involved UW-Marinette, as the Buccaneers scored a pair of impressive victories. On Saturday the team hosted UW-Washington, claiming an 86-54 victory. Katelyn Kuffel led five players in double figures with 21 points, adding a team-best 12 rebounds. Marinette also topped Manitowoc 62-48 on Monday.
The conference's top two individual players each had big games. Waukesha's Hannah Bricco scored 41 points and had 7 rebounds on Saturday as the Cougars held off Manitowoc 75-67. She made 13-of-20 shots from the field and 15-of-20 from the free throw line.
Not to be outdone, Marathon's Morgan Rachu posted a triple-double on Monday, scoring 41 points with 13 steals and 10 assists. She added 8 rebounds for good measure in the 122-55 win over Washington. Rachu is now just 33 points away from the 1000-point mark in her UW-Marathon career.
The regular season wraps up this week, with a few teams getting in some late non-conference games against teams from the U.P. this evening. Marinette welcomes in Bay College (MI), while Marathon makes the trip to Ironwood, MI to take on Gogebic Community College.
Also tonight, Waukesha travels to UW-Washington. The Cougars close the regular season with a home game against Marinette on Saturday. Also on Saturday, league champion Marathon wraps up the regular season with a game against the UW-Baraboo club team.
