The WSN15 series will celebrate the 15th Anniversary of WisSports.net by looking back at the top players, teams, and moments of the past 15 years (2003-2017).

The WSN15 boys' basketball series continues with the Top 15 Teams of the WSN Era.

Though just a sophomore, Bronson Koenig wasted little time proving he was the marquee player on a La Crosse Aquinas squad in 2010-11 that had plenty of star power.

Playing for coach Rick Schneider, the 6-foot-2 Koenig led Aquinas to a 21-1 regular-season record and the title in the Mississippi Valley Conference by averaging a team-best 16.9 points. He also led the squad in three-point baskets and assists and ranked second in steals.

Koenig was the go-to player for the Blugolds, but he had plenty of assistance from the likes of seniors Jimmy Ancius (6-6), Evan Pederson (5-8) and Andy Vegel (5-10) along with sophomore Mike Conway (6-5).

All five played huge roles in helping Aquinas sweep rivals Onalaska and La Crosse Central in league play while also notching impressive non-league victories over the likes of Regis, De Forest, Milwaukee Northwest, Prairie du Chien, Milwaukee Bay View, Minneapolis South and St. Cloud Cathedral, among others.

Aquinas defeated Arcadia and Gale-Ettrrick-Trempealeau at the regional level, and Baldwin-Woodville and Unity in the sectional round.

Aquinas then took a 25-1 record into the WIAA Division 3 State Tournament at the Kohl Center in Madison and quickly turned back Lakeside Lutheran 85-52 in the state semifinals.

Ancius, who went on to play for a University of St. Thomas program that won the NCAA Division III national championship in 2016, had 20 points and 12 rebounds against Lakeside while Pederson, who played four years at NCAA Division III St. Mary's in Winona, Minnesota, added 10 assists.

Koenig, who had a brilliant four-year career at the University of Wisconsin, finished with 14 points, eight rebounds and six assists while Conway, who played football at the University of Minnesota, contributed 20 points and eight rebounds.

Aquinas entered the state-title game against St. Catherine's (23-4) as a slight favorite, though after a tight first half and highly competitive third period, the game was tied at 32 heading into the final five minutes of the contest.

Koenig then stepped up and drained a three-point basket, giving Aquinas the lead for good at 35-32. Koenig finished with 15 points, five rebounds and four assists in the defensive battle as the Blugolds claimed their third WIAA state boys' basketball championship.
