Bangor's Emma Wittmershaus selected as the top Defensive player

Bangor's Emma Wittmershaus has been selected as the top senior Defensive player as part of the WSN Basketball Awards

Wittmershaus uses her length and athleticism to rebound, block and alter shots, and get deflections and steals. She a big reason why the Cardinals are making a return trip to the Resch Center. 

The UW-Milwaukee recruit is averaging 16.7 points, 8.9 rebounds and 2 steals per game, to go along with her shot blocking for coach Merlin Jones and the Cardinals.

Wittmershaus, a 6-foot-3 forward, is the school's all-time leading scorer with over 1,400 points. She also has over 700 rebounds in her career. 

On the WIAA State Tournament conference call, coach Jones said that Emma has seven triple-doubles on the season. 

Bangor, 24-3, faces Clayton in a Division 5 state semifinal on Friday morning. 

Finalists for the award were Wittmershaus, Brooke Freitag of Osseo-Fairchild, Brianna Leahy of Shullsburg, and Kyah Steiner of Aquinas. 

Past winners of the award include Myriama Smith-Traore (2017), Morgan Glatczak of Mukwonago (2016), Taylor Higginbotham of Germantown (2015), Jen Wellnitz of Black Hawk (2014), Emily Gustafson of South Shore (2013), and Alexis Lindstrom of Howards Grove (2012).
