Hortonville's Shay Frederick selected as the top Shooter

Hortonville's Shay Frederick has been selected as the top senior Shooter as part of the WSN Basketball Awards

Frederick is a quick guard that has a quick release and the ability to knock down deep triples. She is in the top three in the state in three-pointers while carrying the best percentage from behind the arc that are in that grouping. 

The Valparaiso recruit is averaging 16.5 points per game with 85 three-pointers on the season for coach Celeste Ratka and the Polar Bears. 

Frederick is shooting 41.8 percent overall, 40 percent from behind the arc, and 80.9 percent from the free throw line. 

The 5-foot-6 guard also contributes 5.1 assists and 2.6 steals per game.

She netted a season-high 38 points, while shooting 14 of 20 from the field and 9 of 15 from behind the arc in a 85-34 win over Oshkosh North on February 6.  

Frederick is the school's all-time leading scorer (girls and boys) at Hortonville with over 1,400 points. 

Hortonville plays top-ranked Beaver Dam in a Division 2 state semifinal on Thursday afternoon. 

Last season, Frederick was a WBCA all-state selection and helped the Polar Bears reach the state tournament. 

Finalists for the award were Frederick, Kassandra Bartek of Oak Creek, Emma Gamoke of Onalaska, Sydney Levy of Appleton North, and Brooklyn Paulson of Holmen. 

Past winners of the award include Tori Martell of Somerset (2017), Dani Rhodes of Waukesha West (2016), Natisha Hiedeman of Green Bay Southwest (2015), Lydia Rohde of Brookfield Central (2014), Rachel Atchison of East Troy (2013), and Taylor Varsho of Marshfield (2012).
