Division 1 Girls Basketball Semi-Final Notes: Appleton North and Mukwonago headed to championship game

Appleton North will try to repeat as Division 1 state champions after defeating Arrowhead, 52-38, in a state semifinal on Friday. 

The Lightning received the 4-seed in the state tournament, but played more like the 1-seed in the victory over Arrowhead. 

Appleton North led 22-16 at the half and pushed the lead to 11 with 13 minutes left in the game. The Warhawks were unable to get any closer than that the rest of the way. 

Senior and UW-Milwaukee recruit Sydney Levy was outstanding for Appleton North. She finished with game-highs of 20 points and 9 rebounds. and shot 7 of 14 from the floor. 

Junior Paige Schabo finished with 12 points and 8 rebounds, and senior Kalen Klitzke netted 9 points for the Lightning. 

Appleton North shot 41.5 percent from the floor and went 16 of 18 from the free throw line. 

Arrowhead was led by senior and Cal Baptist recruit Caitlyn Harper who finished with 18 points. 

Appleton North will face Mukwonago in the state championship game. The Lightning are trying to repeat at Division 1 state champs. 

Mukwonago is headed to the Division 1 state championship game for the third time in the the past five year after beating Oak Creek, 58-48, in a state semi-final. 

The Indians trailed 31-28 at halftime after Oak Creek senior Jenna Dankert banked in a three-pointer before the buzzer. 

Mukwonago began to pull away from Oak Creek at the 5 minute mark when they led 45-40. The Indians wouldn't let the Knights get any closer than that in the contest. 

Junior Grace Beyer and sophomore Angie Cera, a UW-Milwaukee recruit, each finished with 16 points for Mukwonago. 

Beyer also contributed 9 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals. She also shot 12 of 18 from the free throw line. 

Junior Natalie Anderson finished with 14 points and 6 rebounds for the Indians. 

Mukwonago held a huge advantage at the free throw line. They went 27 of 43 compared to Oak Creek going 7 of 9 from the line. 

Senior Lea Finn tallied a team-high 11 points and 6 rebounds for Oak Creek. Junior Maddie Gard netted 10 points for the Knights. 

Mukwonago played without starter Dru Henning who injured her knee in the Indians sectional final win over Madison East.  

The Indians advance to play defending Division 1 state champion Appleton North in the title game. Mukwonago is in search of its first state title in program history.
