As part of the weekly preview I produce every Thursday showcasing the best games from around the state, I always highlight one contest as the Game of the Week. To expand on that, each week I'll post a poll where you -- the fans -- can vote for who you think will win the Game of the Week.

Fond du Lac (Preseason D1 #3) at Kimberly (Preseason D1 #1) at -- Friday, 7 pm

What more can you say about the brilliance from Kimberly over the last several years. Head coach Steve Jones has guided the Papermakers to five straight state titles and a state record 70-game winning streak, which is also the longest active winning streak in the entire country. That winning streak nearly came to an end a few different times last year, including twice against Fond du Lac. In Week 1 of the 2017 season, Fond du Lac held a one-point edge with less than a minute to play, only to see Kimberly score a late touchdown for a 35-28 victory. The teams met again in Level 3 of the playoffs, where Kimberly again claimed a one-score win. The Papermakers bring back just five starters this year, so they'll be breaking in a number of new faces for 2018 against a team that returns players that accounted for eight First Team All-Conference selections. Add in the heightened intrigue from Steve Jorgenson, who led Kimberly to state titles in 2008 and 2009, ascending to the head coaching spot at Fond du Lac, and the first "Game of the Year" is a doozy. There is a sentiment among many observers that Kimberly's streak could come to an end right out of the gates.
