Air National Guard Week 1 Team of the Week Nominees:

Fond du Lac - The Fond du Lac Cardinals had been very close to knocking off Kimberly a few different times in the last couple years, but couldn't quite pull it off. In the Game of the Week in Wisconsin in Week 1, Fondy got the job done, ending Kimberly's state record 70-game winning streak with a 31-28 decision as Jared Scheberl booted a game-winning 25-yard field goal as the clock expired. The Cardinals went up 14-0 in the first half, only to see Kimberly rally to tie the game at 21 midway through the third quarter. Fondy held a one-score lead until Kimberly punched in a touchdown with about three minutes left in the game, before the Cardinals marched for the game-winning score. Fond du Lac racked up 326 rushing yards against the Papermakers.

Kaukauna - The Galloping Ghosts have big goals in 2018, the third season under head coach Matt Binsfeld. They opened it with a bang, hammering Wisconsin Rapids 45-6 behind an explosive offense. Noah Van Asten threw for five touchdown passes in the win, while Tyler Froehlich rushed for 179 yards and to scores.

Kettle Moraine - The Lasers showed that last season's Level 2 playoff run was no fluke, rallying in the fourth quarter to beat defending Classic Eight champion Waukesha West 34-23. It was a tight game throughout, though West led 23-20 to open the final period. Kettle Moraine went ahead on a Hunter Denor 11-yard keeper, as Elijah Weis added a 56-yard insurance score a few minutes later. Weis finished with 192 yard and two touchdowns on the ground, while Denor accounted for 184 yards of offense and a couple touchdowns as well.

Slinger - It was not surprisingly a dogfight between two big, physical football teams, and despite finishing with just 141 total yards of offense, Slinger scratched out a 14-7 victory over Whitefish Bay in a big early-season North Shore Conference battle. The Owls' only pass completion of the game gave them the first touchdown, as Danny Breuer found Hayden Wagner for a 28-yard score. After Whitefish Bay tied it up later in the first quarter, Slinger's Travis Dufour scored on a three-yard touchdown run midway through the second, as the score held up the rest of the way.

Spencer/Columbus Catholic - Both Spencer/Columbus Catholic and Stratford were ranked in the top ten in the preseason by WSN, but it was Spencer that dominated on the scoreboard last Friday, going up 27-0 at halftime before holding on for a 27-7 victory. The total yards were similar between the teams, but Spencer/Columbus Catholic made some big plays when it counted, including a Pick-6 just before halftime.
