Week 1 WisSports.net Coaches Poll

Please note, divisional placement in our poll is based on our Enrollment Projections done earlier this year. Divisional placement in the WIAA playoffs is not determined until after the season and these projections can and will be different than the divisions at the end of the year. We have added an 8-Man Coaches Poll this season.

Division 1

The Division 1 WisSports.net Coaches Poll remains the same this week, as no ranked teams suffered defeat last week. Fond du Lac is on top of the poll as a unanimous choice, but there's a huge match-up in the top five, as #2 Kimberly travels to #4 Neenah.

Division 2

Brookfield Central remains a heavy favorite atop Division 2, with defending champion Waunakee hot on their heels. Central has a heavyweight showdown with Marquette, the sixth-ranked team in Division 1, this week. Pulaski's loss to D1 #7 Bay Port dropped the Red Raiers a couple spots to seventh this week. Former #7 Burlington dropped its first game fo the year at the hands of Waterford, as the Demons drop out of the rankings while Waterford moves in at #10.

Division 3

Catholic Memorial is still the top-ranked squad in the D3 rankings, though New Berlin Eisenhower keeps racking up impressive wins and is challenging as the #2 team. Last week Eisenhower beat crosstown rival New Berlin West, as the Vikings fell from sixth to ninth. Also going down was Rice Lake, the defending state champions, causing the Warriors to fall two spots to fifth.

Division 4

Saint Croix Central keeps dominating the opposition, as the Panthers average better than 45 points per game and have given up a total of just 35 points all year. Bloomer dropped a big Heart O'North game against Northwestern, as the Blackhawks dip to 10th this week, while Northwestern moves up from ninth to sixth. Lakeside Lutheran is a newcomer to the rankings, taking the place of Platteville.

Division 5

Defending Division 6 state champion Saint Mary's Springs continues to be the top-ranked team in Division 5 by a unanimous vote. Lake Country Lutheran, Spencer/Columbus Catholic, and Amherst are a clear two through four in the rankings. Former #5 New Holstein dropped a game to Hilbert despite leading 22-0 in the fourth quarter, as the Huskies slip into a tie for tenth this week. Joining them there is Westby, coming off a dominating win over defending Coulee Conference champion G-E-T.

Division 6

Iola-Scandinavia continues to get most of the #1 votes in the Division 6 WisSports.net Coaches Poll. Grantsburg and Regis continue to rack up impressive victories and significant poll points as well. The only change this week is a minor one, as Pecatonica/Argyle snuck ahead of Wauzeka/Seneca for the #8 position.

Division 7

The Big Three continue to dominate the rankings in Division 7, with Edgar sitting ahead of Bangor and Black Hawk. The rest of the Top Ten remains exactly the same as well, with no ranked teams suffering defeat last week.

8-Man Football

For a change, there wasn't much change in the 8-Man Football Coaches Poll this week, as Newman Catholic remains a strong #1 selection, just ahead of Luck. Gillett was blown out by Gibraltar, dropping the Tigers from #8 to out of the rankings. Florence, who is 4-0 in its first season in 8-Man, moves into the poll at #10.
