Looking Back

Last week we talked about how the Gibraltar-Gillett game would be a contrast of styles, but it turned out to be a one-sided affair, with Gibraltar putting up a whopping 80 points in an 80-30 victory. Gibraltar had 298 passing yards, but topped that with 328 rushing yards. Gillett was limited to less than 150 yards of offense, as one of their scores came via kick return. Bo Krueger, who leads the state in rushing, was limited to just 52 yards on the ground by the Gibraltar defense.

it wasn't the lone high-scoring game by any means, as on Thursday night, Winter/Birchwood beat Mellen 66-60 behind a big game from Nick Heath.

There were six teams that scored at least 60 points last week, with five more that eclipsed the 50-point mark.

Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah at Port Edwards proved to be the most competitive contest, as Port Edwards rallied from a 28-7 halftime deficit to win 34-30. Logan Gessert threw four touchdowns in the third quarter comeback and five overall, as all of them went to Addison Gibbs, who caught a total of 13 passes for 287 yards.

Luck did normal Luck things, beating Siren 64-26, as the Cardinals racked up 447 yards of offense and 7 touchdowns, as three different players went over the century mark.

Looking Ahead

The list of unbeaten teams in 8-Man Football is dwindling, and it is guaranteed to reduce even further after this week. Top-ranked Newman Catholic welcomes in fourth-ranked Gibraltar on Saturday, as both are undefeated this season. Gibraltar is coming off an 80-30 victory over Gillett, but Newman is at a different level. The defending unofficial state champs have rolled through unbeaten this year, as quarterback Ben Bates has been outstanding, throwing for 1,430 yards and 21 touchdowns against just one interception.

Gillett will look to bounce back after the 80-30 loss with a trip to Wisconsin Heights for a non-conference contest.

Florence is unbeaten in its first season of 8-Man Football but the Bobcats just cracked the Top Ten of the Coaches Poll as they haven't faced the state's other top teams as an Independent team. They take on a Port Edwards team that had a big comeback win last week and has a dynamic passing attack behind Logan Gessart and Addison Gibbs.

Star of the Week: Logan Gessert & Addison Gibbs, Port Edwards

Port Edwards trailed Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah 28-7 at halftime last Friday night, as not much was going right for Port. A lot of things went right in the third quarter, as the Blackhawks rallied to score four touchdowns and eventually pulled out a 34-30 victory. All four of those third quarter touchdowns were passes from Logan Gessert to Addison Gibbs. The pair hooked up for the team's only score in the first half as well. Gessert completed 16-of-26 passes in the game for 317 yards and 5 touchdowns. Gibbs caught 13 of those passes for 287 yards and 5 scores.
