Air National Guard Week 7 Team of the Week Nominees:
Brookfield Central - Brookfield Central rebounded nicely from a Week 6 loss to Marquette, defeating crosstown rival Brookfield East 31-7. B'East went up 7-0 midway through the first quarter, but Central responded quickly and led 18-7 at halftime before pulling away for the win. Junior running back Rashad Lampkin, an emerging D1 prospect, continued his strong season with 184 yards and a score on the ground. Central also got a pair of field goals from Josh Thistle as well as a fumble recovery touchdown from Jack Cooney and an interception return score by Joey Cleary.
Cedar Grove-Belgium - Cedar Grove-Belgium remained unbeaten in Big East Conference play with a 28-7 win over Reedsville, handing the Panthers their first loss of the season. It was just a couple years ago that the Rockets set all kinds of passing records with quarterback Josh Weiss and receiver Reid Hilbelink, but CGB is much more a running team now. The team completed just 3-of-7 passes for 49 yards, but rushed for 298, led by 101 and two scores from Chris Jentges.
Potosi/Cassville - Potosi/Cassville ended Bangor's 20-game winning streak, topping the Cardinals 21-6 in a non-conference contest. The defense was outstanding, limiting Bangor to just 180 yards rushing on 52 carries, a 3.5 average. Meanwhile, Potosi/Cassville's running game cranked out 280 yards on the ground and 330 for the game.
West De Pere - The Phantoms had lost four straight games against Menasha since the Bluejays joined the Bay Conference in 2014. That changed in a big way on Friday, as West De Pere put a running clock on Menasha in a 35-7 victory. The powerful ground game rolled up 348 yards and 5 touchdowns, with quarterback Josh Blount rushing for 165 and a score while Evan Frisque had 119 and two scores. The Phantoms controlled the clock, allowing Menasha just 31 offensive plays and 164 yards of offense.
Winneconne - The Wolves moved into sole possession of first place in the East Central Conference with a 21-10 road win over Plymouth, who had been unbeaten in league play as well. It wasn't real pretty offensively, as Winneconne had just 69 yards rushing on 24 carries and threw a pick, but they did enough to get the job done. A fumble return for a score by Markhus Fahrney in the third quarter gave the team a huge lift.
