The Elroy "Crazylegs" Hirsch Award is given annually to the state's top senior running back as part of the WSN Senior Football Awards. The award is named after former Wausau High School athlete Elroy "Crazylegs" Hirsch, who went on to play for the University of Wisconsin and the University of Michigan before starring at end in the NFL for 12 seasons. He is a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, the National High School Hall of Fame, and later went on to serve as Wisconsin's athletic director from 1969 to 1987.

The pre-season watch list was trimmed down to 25 semi-finalists, and five finalists for the award have now been selected. Winners are announced the week of the state finals.

Elroy "Crazylegs" Hirsch Award Finalists:

Joe Aguilera, Abbotsford - Aguilera has been a varsity contributor for four years, including 961 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns as a junior last season. He's been even better as a senior, rushing for 2,386 yards and 38 touchdowns, averaging 13.2 yards per carry. Against Loyal in the de facto Cloverwood Conference title game in Week 9, he carried the ball 26 times for 280 yards and five touchdowns as the Falcons won 49-22.

Darios Crawley-Reid, Martin Luther - Crawley-Reid has been one of the most dynamic offensive weapons in the state the last couple years, scoring 37 touchdowns while rushing for 2,182 yards as a junior. This year, he scored 44 rushing touchdowns, carrying the ball just 175 times for 2,280 yards. That is an incredible 13.0 yards per carry, while he's also caught 11 passes for 298 yards and four touchdowns. Crawley-Reid is a key player on defense and has multiple kick/punt return touchdowns as well. He finished his career with 5,356 rushing yards and 91 rushing scores.

Dylan Hendricks, Pulaski - Ok, this one comes with an asterisk but we'll allow it. Hendricks threw the ball a bit as a sophomore and junior, but has been the team's primary passer as a single-wing quarterback this season. However, he had just 105 pass attempts on the season, good for 776 yards and eight touchdowns, while he's carried the ball a state-best 404 times as a senior for 2,833 yards and 32 touchdowns. Recently named the FRCC Offensive Player of the Year, Hendricks has 6,359 career rushing yards, placing him 4th on the all-time list.

Bryce Huettner, Iola-Scandinavia - Huettner broke the state's career rushing record in a state semi-final win over Grantsburg and has been a fixture on the varsity team at Iola-Scandinavia, playing in 48 games so far in his career. A two-way player virtually the entire time, he broke out for 2,830 rushing yards last season, and is currently sitting at 2,456 yards with 39 touchdowns heading into the state finals. His 6,714 career rushing yards is the new state record. He's scored 39 rushing touchdowns this year and 87 for his career.

Brady Redwine, Elk Mound - Redwine is over 2000 rushing yards for a second consecutive season, sitting at 2,106 in his senior campaign. He's scored 32 touchdowns this season on 256 carries, averaging 8.2 yards per attempt. He has 70 rushing touchdowns in his career, with 4,954 yards. He's also been a full-time player on defense the last three seasons.
