Grantsburg's Leo Chenal was the Small School Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year

The Wisconsin Football Coaches Association has announced its All-State, Player of the Year, and Assistant Coach of the Year Awards for 2018. The WFCA is producing separate Large School and Small School All-State Teams for the first time.

The WFCA Coach of the Year honor will be announced after the playoffs.

Pulaski senior running back Dylan Hendricks was chosen as the WFCA Large School Offensive Player of the Year. Hendricks led the Raiders to Level 3 in Division 2 as a single-wing quarterback. He carried the ball 404 times for 2,833 yards and 32 touchdowns, adding 776 passing yards and eight touchdowns through the air. The FRCC Offensive Player of the Year, he moved into fourth place on the state's career rushing list with 6,359 yards.

Reed Ryan, a senior defensive end from Waunakee, was named the Large School Defensive Player of the Year. After 69 tackles, 26 tackles for loss, and 16 sacks as a senior, Ryan was even better as a senior. In leading the Warriors to an unbeaten regular season and trip to the state semi-finals, Ryan recorded 80 tackles, 37 tackles for loss, 18 sacks, six forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries, two blocked kicks, and a fumble return touchdown in 2018. Like Hendricks, Ryan is committed to D1-FCS powerhouse North Dakota State.

Grantsburg senior Leo Chenal was selected as the Small School Player of the Year on both offense and defense. The Pirates went a perfect 36-0 in the regular season in his four years on varsity, advancing to the state semi-finals this season. Despite missing Week 1 due to a mission trip, Chenal rushed 194 times for 2,038 yards with 42 touchdowns, averaging 10.5 yards per carry. He also caught 12 passes for 226 yards and three scores, throwing for two touchdowns as well. On defense, the University of Wisconsin recruit has 120 tackles, 7 tackles for loss, three fumble recoveries, two interceptions, and a sack.

Tom Cabalka of Middleton was chosen as the Assistant Coach of the Year.

Chenal, Neenah outside linebacker Logan Eiden, and Elk Mound running back Brady Redwine were repeat selections on the All-State team.

Players who received First Team All-State at two positions included Chenal (RB/ILB), Regis' Andrew Ernstmeyer (TE/OLB), Spencer/Columbus Catholic's Logan Zschernitz (OL/DE), Stratford's Ben Barten (OL/DL), and Kettle Moraine's Blake Wilcox (K/P).
